A police motorcycle patrol foiled an armed robbery in Kampala’s Nakawa Division, recovering a rifle and suspected stolen property after interrupting the attackers in the act.
The incident occurred at about 12:50am on June 23, 2026, in Ssemwogerere Zone along Mukasa Road, where a businessman and his wife were reportedly ambushed by three armed robbers while walking home.
According to preliminary police findings, the suspects ordered the couple to stop and lie on the ground before robbing the businessman of his mobile phone and wallet at gunpoint.
The robbers then turned their attention to the woman and demanded her phone. However, before they could complete the robbery, police officers conducting routine motorcycle patrols in the area arrived at the scene.
On spotting the officers, the suspects fled, abandoning a bag containing suspected stolen items and a rifle.
Police immediately launched a pursuit, during which one unidentified male suspect, believed to be about 25 years old, was fatally shot.
Investigators are working to establish the suspect's identity and determine whether the group is linked to other armed robberies reported in Kampala.
The recovered firearm and other exhibits have been taken into police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects who escaped during the operation.
