Position: Officer 3 – Community Policing and Forestry
Contract type & Duration: Unspecified Time Contract
Department: Security
Reporting to: Senior Supervisor Community Policing
Number of Positions: One (1)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To support community policing initiative through daily engagement with village leaders, Tanzania forestry service officers, and the ward Community Police Officers in respective ward so that general crime and deforestation activities can be reduced on the mine and within the neighboring communities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced Secondary Education, Diploma, equivalent or above
  • Tertiary education in Social Sciences Studies or Knowledge in security liaison/community policing will be an added advantage.
  • Must possess Class D and/ or above Tanzanian driver’s license – Must pass site driving test.

EXPERIENCE:
  • 02 years working experience in community engagement function.
  • Experience in gold mining security will be added advantage.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Daily monitoring of community & forestry policing performance and advise the streets and village leaders on way to improve.
  • Liaise with village/street leaders to foster co-operation and understanding on community policing program.
  • Advise GGML security management on the cultural beliefs, needs and protocol of the surrounding community in which we operate.
  • Identify potential crime or disorder problems in the surrounding community and advise and assist in prevention strategies.
  • Work closely with Tanzania forestry service (TFS) Geita office regarding SML forest protection initiatives, protection against cattle husbandry within the SML and all forest incidents.
  • Provide support to various deforestation operations conducted by Tanzania forest service – Geita.
  • Attend to monthly and quarterly community policing performance review meetings with street and village leaders and TFS officers.
  • Conduct monthly forest protection performance review meetings with Tanzania forest service – Geita.
  • Work closely with community affairs department to ensure proper alignment with neighboring communities on security related programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication between the community and GGML security management on security related issues.
  • Facilitate various security related programs within the surroundings community that will be developed by security department.
  • Listen to various challenges related to community policing function from village leaders and report to senior supervisor.
  • Submit weekly community & forestry policing performance reports to senior supervisor on all activities that has been done during the week.
  • Be familiar and comply with the VPSHR.
  • Any other tasks approved by security management and assigned to you through your supervisor.

  • Computer literate – Microsoft office package
