No Longer At Ease - The Nature of Our Open Society Has Changed

Tanzanians should wake up and accept the fact that the nature of our 'open society' has now changed. It is almost impossible to reverse this trend now. We can no longer live and act as if everyone is a friend to us. We can't even think that the people we call friends and brothers are indeed such. We have to change - dramatically - how our safety and security apparatus work and how we can balance the need for liberty and freedom to those need for safety and security.

Religions organizations should install -immediately - closed circuit cameras; we should encourage companies and other organizations to install cameras at their premises for security reasons. But even more, we need to start shouting even louder so that our Intelligence organs and the Police Force would be reformed and re-calibrated to face the challenges of the modern criminal acts and enterprises.

If we don't do that, if we don't change we will be at the mercy of those who hate us and who hate our open, peaceful and friendly way of life. We will perpetually suspicious of our friends, brothers and sisters. And it seems the later has just gotten deeper and deeper as our nation lacking visionary and courageous leadership is sinking in the mud of self-creation.

Friends, We need leaders who understand this; leaders who boldly can lead us to better days ahead! Like in Star Trek - we need leaders "who can boldly go where no one has gone before".

Or at least try to.

Based on the composition of the work force of the current Government along with the leaders of the ruling party in force, it is apparent that, no one will accept your suggested solution, as this is contrary to their deliberate measures taken to institute the weak security system across the country to accelerate exploitation of our resources ruthlessly for the minority interest along with "divide and rule policy".

The notion that we are one nation with a common denominator was carefully fabricated and cultivated by Nyerere and the oldguards, defenders of the faith (Azimio) and custodians of nationhood.

In the process of nation building, this was not entirely a bad thing. Plus the country was genuinely more egalitarian then to give these founders some inkling of the benefit of the doubt regarding their bonafide as custodians and cultivators of egalitarianism.

Up until the eighties I remember mshua honking and waving at Minister Mustapha Nyang'anyi. The minister was driving a Volkswagen beetle, himself. Nowadays a minister is a demigod flashed in multiple gas guzzling monstrosities of obscene shape and cost.

Since this ilk is a dying out endangered species, the truth is that "we" are not even we, in that we hardly can point to a real "common denominator" as president Mwinyi would put it, that is apart from the abstract concept of a common nationality - which some of "us" do not even want to be identified with in the first place- this truth that we are not even one is becoming ever more evident.

This whole new reality is exposing some fiat assumptions and uncultivated fabrications striving on a bygone, or perhaps fastly fading, naivette. Ideas such as "we are one people", "we are an island of peace" are increasingly seen as a propagandist utopian tool, not firmly rooted in the ground.

It is time to evolve away from this Shangri-La of blissful simplicity and deconstruct the boilerplate propaganda for what it is.

The fact is, we are not one people.Just look at the haves/ have not divide.It is almost like we have two nations in one, with some earning less monthly than what others spend on dogfood or TV subscriptions.

So how do you expect a country with such a vast disparity on top of the Malthusian malfeasance, Dickensian doldrums and Sisyphean squalor to maintain any semblance of coherent peace?

All it takes is for some few maliciously motivated religious sadomasochists with the proverbial forty pieces of silver and one hungry Judah will sellout.

Is it any wonder that we have these obscenities happening? With our security forces totally uncoordinated and barking up the wrong trees?

To me the only surprise is that we do not have more attacks.

The main problem this country is facing now is lack of knowledge, even those who went to school perhaps they didn't get enough education to make them knolegable or perhaps they got the knowledge but they are acting in their own interest. I expected those who went to school to be on the front line preaching reconciliation among our people

Am a muslim but i dont believe that its islam which encourage this kind of sloughtering other human being, i dont believe that something which is done by muslim should be blamed to islam, i dont believe that killing Christians will make a muslim better person before God (who actually exist but which religion is the true religion to God???????)

Effective digital surveillance system in the area of security is vital, this involves installation of Camera not only in the locations MM has proposed but also in all main Road junctions of our Towns.

While one needs some capital to have it installed, in a long run it is cheap in terms of running security systems for safeness of the Wananchi and their belongings.

In the Country I'm living now, I do understand that people are seen almost everywhere they go except when they enter their rooms!

I absolutely agree with you though some people with power,the rulers and their allies are trying to defend the dark side of society just for their personal and especially political interests.They don't understand that we can not become what we need by remaining what we are.These people don't agree and accept the truth that THE SOCIETY WE ARE LIVING TO DAY IS OPEN and HAS CHANGED!.They say we should not point fingers at others rather stick in solving problem....We can not solve our problems if we are not able to identify the source and the cause of those problems....and that is where the logic of SOCIAL OPENESS is!!.

MMM umezungumza vizuri sana, Tanzania ya sasa inahitaji viongozi ambao kimsingi wanaelewa kuwa wamepewa nafasi hizo kwa ajili ya uwatumikia wananchi, viongozi ambao wanajua kuwa wapo kwa ajili ya kufanya nini, na zaidi viongozi ambao wapo kwa ajili ya maslahi na matakwa ya Watanzania walio wengi. Wale ambao wajitoa kwa dhati ya mioyo yao kulitumikia taifa.

Hapo nilipobold ndiyo kuna udhaifu mkubwa sana, Serikali yetu kwa sasa haina viongozi dhabiti. vongozi tulionao hawajui hata sababu ya umaskini tulionao, wengi wao wanashughulika na siasa za chuki, majungu na kulipiza kisasi, Hawana muda wa kukaa na kutafakari changamoto za kiuchumi na matatizo ya kitaifa, na namna gani ya kukuza maisha ya Mtanzania.

Hivi sasa amani inaanza kumegeka taratibu kwa misingi ya dini, viongozi wa ngazi za juu hawachukui hatua thabiti. Wameiacha kazi hiyo ifanywe na vyombo vya usalama ambavyo navyo either haivipati supoti ya kutosha au navyo viko kiasisa!

Ili tuendelee kudumisha amani ya Tanzania, kuna kila sababu ya kuondoa uongozi na viongozi ambao ni dhahiri kuwa either hawana uwezo wa kuongoza au wapo kwa ajili ya maslahi yao binafsi au makundi fulani ya watu.
