United African University of Tanzania (UAUT)
The first academic year of the United African University of Tanzania (UAUT) is expected to commence this September with degree programmes in Business Administration, Computer Engineering and Information Technology.
"The opening of the university, which is run by Korea Church Mission, is now in full swing," said UAUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research) Prof Jo Do Hyun when talking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
He said the Computer Engineering and Information Technology programme would take four years, while the Business Administration would take three years.
Prof Do Hyun said the university was ready for take-off and was now seeking highly performing students.
"We will soon start admitting students ready for take off," he said.
The deputy vice-chancellor said to start with, the university would admit 120 students for the two courses.
He added that starting this year there would be 53 scholarships offered by the university, noting that the recipients would have to attain certain criteria.
He explained that students would enjoy a six-month internship in a foreign country, which would help broaden their world view, technical experience and networks.
According to the university's plan, the following academic year will see an Electrical Engineering Degree course introduced, while by 2015 degree courses such as Mass Communication, Journalism, Pharmacology and Biotechnology Education will be introduced.
Prof Do Hyun said with globally recruited academic staff and internship of students in foreign countries, the university sought to produce global leaders in their fields.
UAUT is situated in Vijibweni area, Kigamboni, in Dar es Salaam.
