Kenya has allocated its highest-ever national security budget in the 2026/2027 financial year, with a combined allocation of approximately KSh 567 billion toward security, defense, intelligence, policing, and correctional services.
Key allocations include:
Defence: KSh 252.1 billion
National Intelligence Service (NIS): KSh 64 billion
Interior and National Security: KSh 63.9 billion
National Police Service (NPS): KSh 44.7 billion
Kenya Prisons Service: KSh 42.6 billion
In addition, the government has set aside KSh 21 billion for targeted security-sector interventions aimed at modernizing policing and enhancing operational capability:
KSh 13 billion for leasing police motor vehicles
KSh 7 billion for police modernization programmes
KSh 1 billion for the construction and upgrading of national forensic facilities
