More than 100 deluxe cars belonging to the GUPTAS brothers AJAY, ATUL and RAJESH were yesterday, in a James Bond style, seized by South African authorities in a bid to recoup state funds. Lambhorgin, Maserati, Bentley and Lexus are just some of the luxury brand names of more than 100 cars seized.
The GUPTA family is a wealthy Indian-born South African family whose most notable members are the three brothers.
Seizing the fancy cars is one of the ways South Africa will be able to recoup billions of funds looted from the state by the Gupta family.
The Gupta brothers used a friendship with former president JACOB GEDLEYHLEKISA ZUMA and a business relationship with his son DUDUZANE JACOB ZUMA to influence cabinet appointments and secure lucrative state contracts.
Multiple ministers and MPs have openly stated that they were offered government positions by, or on behalf of the Gupta family, in return for beneficial commercial decisions once appointed.
Former Gupta family bodyguards state that they used to see many powerful government officials with large amounts of money in cash moving out of the Guptas Saxonword estate.
Apart from the Porsche cars, there are other flashy assests that could be seized and sold ie planes, helicopters, a plethora of properties, media business, another 80 fancy cars and mining companies that now make up some of the now crumbling Gupta Empire believed to have been built with South African tax money.
The three Guptas brothers and DUDUZANE have disappeared into thin air and are believed to have fled the country. The National Prosecuting Authority has moved to free all their assets in South Africa.
The Guptas and then Vice President ZUMA met in 2003 at a function hosted by the Guptas. Since then, the family has been involved in a number of events involving ZUMA and his family.
The Guptas family has employed ZUMA's wife BONGI NGEMA ZUMA, DUDUZANE is a director in a number of Gupta owned firms while one of ZUMAs daughters, DUDUZILE JACOB ZUMA is a director of the Gupta owned Sahara computers.
A reflection of the close relationship between the Gupta family and ZUMA is the term *ZUPTA*.
