After a lady allegedly locked her two small children inside their home last night and set it on fire, a gloomy atmosphere has descended upon Sosik Village in Bomet County.
The suspect, Brenda Chelangat Cheruiyot, 40, allegedly went home, discovered her two children, Enock Kiptoo, 3, and Aron Kipkirui, 6, inside, locked the door, lit the house on fire, and then fled the scene, according to Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge.
When neighbours heard screaming and noticed the fire, they hurried to assist, but they were unable to save the kids because the fire had already spread throughout the entire house.
Residents later located the suspect, who allegedly tried to lynch her before police intervened and saved her. She is being detained at the Ndanai Police Station right now.
After processing the site, police moved the two victims' remains to Kapkatet Mortuary while they were investigated.
