Cieni Village in Njukiini Ward, Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County, has been overcome with shock and anguish following reports that a 43-year-old man killed his lover inside her bedroom before taking his own life.
Around 1:00 PM on Wednesday, the bodies of Charles Githinji, 43, and Catherine Wangari, 39, were found.
Nicholas Muchiri, Wangari's brother, claims that he went to visit his sister because they intended to go to Muthigini Shopping Center together.
When Muchiri knocked on the door repeatedly and got no response, she walked inside and discovered Githinji hanging from the ceiling and Wangari lying in a pool of blood on her bed.
According to Muchiri, the two were close friends, and Githinji, who lived in Gathunguri hamlet, which is roughly five kilometres from Cieni, would sometimes spend the night at Wangari's house.
According to one of Githinji's sons, the family had not seen him in three weeks. The bodies were moved to the mortuary as detectives from Gichugu Sub-County launched investigations into the incident.
