Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara has ordered the arrest of the headteacher of Naiku Primary School in Bulambuli District over alleged corruption after an inspection uncovered a major discrepancy in the school's enrollment records.
During the visit, Barugahara found that although the school had officially reported an enrolment of 1,352 pupils, only 705 learners were present.
The minister said the large difference raises concerns about possible inflation of pupil numbers to fraudulently obtain more government funding under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme.
He directed authorities to arrest the headteacher as investigations begin into the alleged irregularities.

Barugahara said the government will continue cracking down on corruption in public institutions to ensure taxpayers' money is used for its intended purpose and that services reach the people who need them most.
