William Gallas is poised to sign a new contract to extend his stay at Tottenham, with Harry Redknapp saying: "He has been top class."
The veteran centre-back signed a one-year deal with Spurs in the summer following his release by North London rivals Arsenal.

The former Chelsea player has become an integral member of Harry Redknapp's backline and has helped the club secure a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will take on Real Madrid.
France international Gallas admitted after the last-16 victory over AC Milan that he would welcome the opportunity to prolong his association with Spurs.
And now Redknapp has confirmed that chairman Daniel Levy has opened discussions with the 33-year-old, who the experienced manager regards as 'one of the signings of the season'.
"The chairman's doing a deal," Redknapp told the Daily Telegraph. "William fully deserve it, he has been top class. He's a nice man, a quiet man who just gets on with it.
"He could have gone abroad during the summer and made money, but the deal he did with us was an awful lot less than he was on at Arsenal.
"He has been one of the signings of the season. He has been magnificent for us and has played nearly all the games."

Agreed 100% medicinebass! As one of the more informed posters here on the board, your analysis is spot on. The man is at the end of his career....and if he is the best Tottenham have in defense, RM will be having fun in the attacking third.

Gallas was a big success at Chelsea, but he decided to move on.... perhaps, a rash decision.
He and Terry , forged a partnership together that will be difficult to match... easily the best in the league.
Together, they helped create a new Prem record for 'Goals Against'.... 11 for the season.
The record, previously held by Liverpool, at 17 goals. When Gallas decided to move on to Arsenal.....
He is a contraversial figure, with his mind-set... petulant, moody and maker of some rash decisions.
AW tried to stroke him, by making him the team captain... that did't last too long...
and so, he was off, once more... this time to join Tottenham. I am not doubting, nor dissing the man's skills...
and yes, he's done a great job for Spurs... but, he's a legend in his own mind. An opinion only.

Vermaelen focused on pre-season

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is hoping to get a full pre-season behind him in order to find his 'rhythm' next season.
The 25-year-old centre-back has not played since September after picking up an Achilles injury during Belgium's Euro 2012 qualifier with Turkey.

Vermaelen was initially excepted to only miss a few weeks but had to undergo surgery in January and has had a recent return put back.
Manager Arsene Wenger has ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign and the cultured defender is now hoping to fine tune his fitness over the summer.
"The chances that I will play another game this season are small," he told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
"I can understand my manager when he says that my season is over. I have been out for seven months and I must fulfil a complete 'pre-season', so it's logical that he won't take risks.
"Time is ticking away and the season finishes in two months. I must first get fit again, then gain rhythm.
"So I've still a long way to go. I can kick a ball as hard as possible, but that's not my problem. I need to run without pain."
He added: "After surgery, you soon become impatient. I'm a player they have to slow down - that's my problem. I felt a little pain, but I had something in my head: I'll cope with it.
"That's wasn't too smart: you can't beat nature. After a few weeks I personally indicated that I had to slow down. It didn't feel that comfortable, as it feels these days.
"I always thought I would be out for six weeks [after the surgery]. That was what I was told.
"So I never could anticipate this long absence. Maybe I would have preferred that I knew from the start."
Vermaelen has thanked his team-mates at the Emirates for helping him through what has been a tough time.
"I wanted to stay in the dressing room [during my rehabilitation] to be with my team-mates," he remarked.
"I had so much support from my friend Robin van Persie for example. Robin is a very helpful guy. He has experience with long injuries and often gave me good advice."

The out-of-favour Argentine moved to Wearside from Estudiantes in the summer but has struggled to make any impact in the North-East.
Angeleri has made just two Premier League appearances as a substitute and only one start, which came in the FA Cup third round defeat at home to Notts County in January.
Now the 27-year-old has hit out at Bruce for snubbing him and claims that the Sunderland boss is 'not a nice person at all'.
"The boss doesn't talk to me, he doesn't even say hello to me when he sees me," he told ESPN Radio.
"I think he doesn't like me because I'm not English.
"Steve Bruce is not a nice person at all. He is a little unpleasant. I have played just a few minutes in Sunderland since my arrival.
"I want to play, that's my job. That's why I'm not happy here in Sunderland. I don't understand why I'm not playing. The boss is too defensive."

The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a productive 2010/11 campaign, helping to fire his current employers to the top of Ligue 1.

His exploits have thrust him into the European spotlight, with numerous clubs reported to be plotting summer raids.
Spanish giants Atletico Madrid were believed to be leading the hunt, but the door remains open for other suitors to join the race.
Newcastle could be among those prepared to chance their arm, with Alan Pardew in the market for a striker following the January sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
Gervinho admits he would welcome the opportunity to turn out in Spain or England, but insists any talk regarding his future must wait until the end of the season.
"Newcastle are a good team," he said. "I have been linked to various teams now but I am still under contract at Lille until 2012, so I am not worrying.
"We are top of the league and I want to win that. At the end of the season we can sit down and see what the next step will be. I want to concentrate on my football.
"The Spanish and English leagues are two of the best in the world and it would be a privilege to play there, but I belong to Lille until 2012."

    On topic,

Rafa can have his say. Because the media have to take advantage of the lack of column inches in waiting on the internationals.

Kenny is back and the new owners have decided to go the Anfield way instead of the Hollywood drama. The boot room mentality means the fights about players (aka Perry's Keane choice v Barry) and other issues (like a contract for Kenny) will not be discussed. The management decision is 9 games off (at least). Its obvious what's going to happen, but it won't be discussed. Its killing the press. I love it.

To answer the question owners or Rafa and those comments obviously devoid of any real fact here ya go.
Fact: Owners and directors R. Perry and Purslow were responsible for a buy and sell activity that satisfied cooperate profit and massive debt. 10 free transfer busts (including current roster members). Sold assets were not replaced one for one in most cases. A Xabi apprentice forced into action earlier than planned, Rafa's last year. After having the strongest mid in the league 08-09. Fact: Rafa did not have first team selection authority. He got the academy with his last contract. Did he influence buys with stars, yes. Did he make recommendation mistakes yes. But his biggest crime was calling out the FA and Fergie, and Foreigners aren't allowed to do that in the english press

Evans sorry for hurting Holden

Manchester United's Jonny Evans admits his tackle on Stuart Holden was not a good one but says he had no intention of hurting the Bolton star.
Holden required 26 stitches in a gash in his knee following the challenge during Saturday's Premier League match at Old Trafford, for which Evans was sent off.

The injury is expected keep United States international Holden, who has since undergone surgery, out of action for six months, but the 25-year-old has already said via his Twitter account that he does not blame Evans for what happened.
Holden also revealed that he had received a "sincere" phone call from the Northern Ireland international, and Evans told BBC Sport: "I just said (to Holden) I was sorry, and that I didn't mean to go in and hurt him."
He added: "At the time I did think I'd gone in for a fair challenge and I'd won the ball.
"But looking back on it when I went straight off the pitch and into the changing rooms and saw the tackle again, I realised it wasn't a good tackle from myself - and my concerns were immediately with Stuart.
"Bolton's doctor was keeping me informed, and gave me a call on Monday.
"It was disappointing to hear the news, (so) I just rang him straight away to apologise.
"I think anyone appreciates a phone call if someone's caused them an injury.
"Not many footballers like to be on the treatment table, it's just unfortunate that someone else has caused an injury to you."

The Netherlands routed Hungary 4-0 away to stay perfect in Group E while Italy and France also claimed victories on Friday to consolidate leads in their 2012 European Championship qualifying pools.
PHOTOS AND VIDEO

Premier League stars Rafael van der Vaart, Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie were joined on the scoresheet by Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay as the Dutch ran riot in Budapest against their nearest rival, grabbing a fifth straight win.
Brazilian-born central midfielder Thiago Motta scored a 73rd-minute winner for Italy in a 1-0 victory over Slovenia, lifting his adopted country six points clear in Group C.
Roma defender Philippe Mexes and Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff were the scorers for Group D leader France in its routine 2-0 win at last-place Luxembourg. Les Bleus are now four points ahead of second-place Belarus as they, like Italy, continue to rebuild their tarnished reputation after an embarrassing World Cup campaign in South Africa.
Elsewhere, Serbia rallied to beat Northern Ireland 2-1 and Belgium triumphed 2-0 at Austria, with both winners going joint second in Groups C and A respectively.
World and European champion Spain, one of three other teams to have 100 percent records so far in qualifying, was hosting the Czech Republic later Friday.
Van der Vaart and Afellay scored first-half goals to put the Netherlands 2-0 ahead by the interval.
Van Persie set up Kuyt in the 54th for the third before the Arsenal striker scored himself eight minutes later to complete the rout for the World Cup runner-up.
The Dutch are now six points clear of the Hungarians ahead of the reverse fixture between the two countries on Tuesday in Amsterdam. Sweden is third, three points further back but having played two fewer games.
Motta, who plays for Inter Milan, opened his account for the Azzurri in just his second match for the team, scoring with an angled drive to give the visitors a deserved victory in Slovenia.
Giampaolo Pazzini had earlier hit the post for Italy, which remained unbeaten in group play and has a healthy cushion halfway through its qualifying campaign.
Despite having no fans to cheer the team on, Serbia rallied to beat Northern Ireland 2-1 in Belgrade and climb into third place, level on points with Slovenia.
Serbia was being punished by UEFA after a section of its fans rioted during a qualifier against Italy in Genoa in October, and fell behind against Northern Ireland when Gareth McAuley met Chris Brunt's free kick with a looping header into the corner in the 40th.
Some 250 Northern Irish fans celebrated but they were silenced in the second half as goals by Marko Pantelic and Zoran Tosic in the space of nine minutes completed the turnaround.
Winger Franck Ribery and left back Patrice Evra returned for France after completing bans which stemmed from their key roles in a squad strike during the World Cup.
The fiasco in South Africa seems a distant memory, though, with the French having turned the corner under new coach Laurent Blanc. The win over Luxembourg was their fourth in a row since opening qualifying with a home defeat to Belarus.
Mexes rose highest to head home a free kick by Samir Nasri in the 28th and Gourcuff gave France breathing space against a team largely filled with amateur players, firing home a low shot in the 72nd.
Standard Liege striker Alex Witsel scored goals either side of halftime to guide Belgium to victory in Vienna, putting his team level with Austria on seven points - five behind runaway group leader Germany.

After the fisrt 15 minutes passed, Slovenia decided to park the bus playing most of the rest of the game trying to get a 0-0 tie. Italia attacked most of the game and deserved the points. I agree with turiddhu that Rossi should have played more or even started. The back line had their lapses and made some mistakes, but were able to recover when needed. This is the type of game that Italy would have last last summer at the WC. Prandelli is the right man at the right time.

It looks like Austria is starting to teeter. Good chance they will also fall at Ataturk Olympic stadium. Belgium should beat the Azerbaijani but let's see what the latter can show 😉

Fab defensive over captaincy saga

Fabio Capello understands if Rio Ferdinand is upset at losing the England captaincy to John Terry, but says it was a decision he had to make.
Terry's return as skipper following a 13-month exile after allegations about his private life has dominated the headlines in the build-up to Saturday's game with Wales, while it has been reported that Capello did not tell Ferdinand that he was being replaced as captain before reports emerged in the media.
Sat., Mar. 26
Wales vs. England
Bulgaria vs. Switzerland

Ferdinand's current absence through injury, plus that of vice-captain Steven Gerrard, meant that Capello had a captaincy decision to make, and he believes he has made the right choice.
"Something happened in my mind when I saw the armband being passed around during our game in Copenhagen (against Denmark)," he said.
"We changed it in the second half and it was unfair for John Terry to see this.
"I thought that it was time for John Terry, after punishment, to return and be captain.
"I know that Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard are not fit. I knew it was the moment, with one game which is so important, to have one captain like John Terry.
"I tried to meet him (Ferdinand) when Manchester United played against Marseille but he told me no.
"I can understand everything, but I need to make decisions. I think I will be happy and will meet him (Ferdinand) in the future."
Pushed further on why the meeting with Ferdinand did not take place, Capello added: "It didn't happen, he didn't come.
"Its a question for him, not for me. I was in the directors' box. You have to ask him, okay?"
Capello added: "I spoke with the players and personally with some players, and I spoke with the squad before I decided that John Terry will be the captain, and all the players were happy because John Terry was always a very important leader on the pitch and to the team."
Capello also praised the improvement shown by Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is set to make his first competitive start for England on Saturday, saying he was surprised at the strides made by the 19-year-old.
Capello said: "He is a young player who has improved a lot in a short time. He was an interesting player, when he played his first game with us he was good, but young.
"Now he is playing like a player who has played a lot of games, like a 28 or 29-year-old. He plays the game fantastically with personality and without fear. It's not easy to find players like him who play without fear in places like the Nou Camp. I spoke with Arsene
(Wenger) and he told him he was also surprised by how he had improved so much in so short a time."
When asked whether Wilshere in the years ahead could emulate club mate Aaron Ramsey, who will captain Wales for the first time on Saturday, Capello said: "It will not be my problem. But I think he is a really good player, to be a captain you need to be a leader and I think Wilshere will be captain in a really short time."
In the brief amount of time spent looking ahead to the Millennium Stadium contest, Capello said he was wary of Wales, despite Gary Speed's side having lost their three Group G qualifiers to date.
He said: "I think this derby game is very different to the others we will play. In derby games as a player and as a manager it was not always the best team who won. I think this is a dangerous game to play as the spirit of the Welsh is fantastic."

Prandelli keen to help Balotelli

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has pledged to support Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli and help aid his development.
The 20-year-old striker has endured a turbulent time in the north west since joining Roberto Mancini's side from Inter Milan in the summer.
PHOTOS AND VIDEO

Mancini lauded Balotelli as an "exciting player" whose style would suit the Barclays Premier League upon completing the £24-million deal in August 2010.
However, it is moments of indiscretion rather than magic that has peppered his stay with Manchester City.
In Balotelli's 21 appearances for City he has already picked up nine yellow cars and two reds, with the most recent coming for planting his studs into the chest and thigh of Dynamo Kiev defender Goran Popov last week.
The Europa League sending-off has resulted in his omission from the Italy squad as manager Prandelli looks to implement a new ethical code.
But speaking ahead of tonight's Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia, Prandelli has promised to support Balotelli.
"For Mario, the important thing is that there is a reflection on his mistakes," he told Rai.
"He has felt this unease and is regretful. He has asked for help and we will stay close to him to help in his development."
While Balotelli can be a disruptive influence, he is considered one of the most gifted players produced in Italy over recent years.

Such a dearth of young talent has led some to argue the well of talent in the Peninsula is drying up, leading Prandelli to admit that Italy need to go back to basics.
"The moment has come for us to have faith in the former greats of our football and learn from them," he added.
"My rallying cry is work, work, work. And I strongly believe in Italy's renewal.
"I don't find the great number of talented players Slovenia are producing to be unbelievable.
"Nothing is unbelievable if there is planning and your idea of football is cultivated. Another Franco Baresi will emerge, of that I am sure."

Phiri, uongozi Simba watofautiana Send to a friend Saturday, 26 March 2011 10:24

Mwandishi Wetu

Kibaden aitoa makosa Ngorongoro Heroes Send to a friend Saturday, 26 March 2011 10:17

TFF yaalika mashabiki kwa wingi U/Taifa leo Send to a friend Saturday, 26 March 2011 10:20
