Manchester City defender Kolo Toure was suspended Thursday after failing a doping test.

City issued a statement saying "the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an 'A-sample' provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance."
The club added that Toure has been suspended from all matches "pending the outcome of the legal process," and that it would not provide any further comment.
The World Anti-Doping Agency define a specified substance as one that is "more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation," and its punishment for such a positive test ranges from a warning to a two-year ban.
The 29-year-old Toure joined City for 14million pounds from Arsenal in 2009. He was City's club captain under former manager Mark Hughes but was succeeded by Carlos Tevez for this season.
His brother Yaya Toure also plays for City.

Kenny coy over Carroll expectations

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish played down expectations concerning Andy Carroll's potential debut against Manchester United on Sunday.
The 22-year-old, whose £35million price tag is a record for a British player, has not had chance to turn out for his new club as he has been sidelined with a thigh injury.

His last game was for Newcastle on December 28.
Dalglish has always insisted he would be patient, but with the striker taking part in full training sessions this week, there is a chance he could be in the squad to face Liverpool's arch-rivals at Anfield.
The Reds boss was giving nothing away, however, at his pre-match press conference on Thursday morning.
"His training is always progressing but he has not yet progressed to a game yet," said Dalglish, who celebrates his 60th birthday on Friday.
"We have said all along we have been delighted with his progress and what he has done.
"There have not been anything which he has done which has not been encouraging.
"Whether he will be involved on Sunday, I'm sure Fergie (Sir Alex Ferguson) would love to know, but we don't know yet."
And after he and Carroll were pictured at a concert in Liverpool last week Dalglish joked: "He might not even be a substitute - he might be going to see Boyzone."

    cheers guys,

Fellow Scousers 88/Cad/4lyfe/JC et al ;-) sounds like were up for it, eh. If Kenny gives him 20 or 30 in the second half I think we can count ourselves lucky he's recovered. If he gets on it should be fun. I do think Suarez is gonna give United some issues. The guys are looking good, but I really hope it doesn't come down to which injured defense makes a mistake. Although if it is United that does, well I won't shed any tears ;-)

If I had to pick two, I would go with de Rossi and Forlan, due to the latter's knowledge of the EPL. De Rossi would take the fight to Essien and Alex Song!

I like Pastore more than De Rossi. I would really take Kaka right now, he's a bit fragile but can thread a needle with a ball

Ni Arsenal vs man United FA Cup Send to a friend Thursday, 03 March 2011 20:02

LONDON, England

Carlo 'not asking Torres to score'

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he is happy with out-of-sorts Fernando Torres as he does not ask his strikers to score goals.
Torres joined Chelsea from Liverpool in a £50million January deal but is yet to get off the mark for his new club.

He endured another goalless outing on Tuesday as the Blues overcame Manchester United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Fellow new recruit David Luiz did manage to find the target against the Red Devils and arguably looked a greater attacking threat than Torres despite being a centre-back.
However, Ancelotti has played down concerns over the Spaniard's form, saying he performed well in the midweek encounter.
The Chelsea manager was impressed by Torres' overall contribution and insists the lack of goals is not a problem.
Speaking about Luiz and Torres, Ancelotti said: "We don't have to compare them. Torres didn't score but I don't ask my strikers to score.
"I ask them to play for the team. Torres did a very good job with that. People judge him on the goals he scored but I have to look at different things about his performance.
"He worked for the team, put pressure on the defenders, moved well in front and worked hard.
"That's enough for me. Ask him, not me, if it will affect him but I don't think it will. I'm not asking him to score."

Carlo is a smart man... while he doesnt ask his forwards to score, he expects everyone on the team to defend when we dont have the ball. And when we do have the ball, every man on the field attacks as a team. Everyone has a role to play and creating a goal for someone else is just a good as scoring yourself from the perspective of the TEAM.. Look, as long as Torres keeps working, the goals will come..

Dutch - that is kind of funny. Maybe Ancelotti expects his backs to do the scoring. But seriously, Ancelotti is just backing Torres who did play very well despite not scoring. And yes, for 50 mil, he's expected to score and he will. If he and Drogba play up top against Blackpool and Drogba plays as hard as he did against United, then I bet he scores against Blackpool

Ok,, well I guess you are getting your wish as evidenced by Lamps quote the other day that " Torres' movement was top class" I guess Romy bought a ballroom dancer in torres instead of a goal scorer.. Very nice. MAybe Romy can see if Baryshnikov' is available . It may cost him a bit more than 50 mil as he is TOP TOP class in his movements

Wenger: Strike duo vital to bid

Arsene Wenger admits FA Cup goal heroes Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh will be vital to Arsenal's tilt at the Premier League title.
Wenger watched the duo net in the 5-0 FA Cup victory over Leyton Orient.

The Gunners came into the fifth-round replay smarting after Sunday's Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham but left celebrating a comfortable victory.
Chamakh's first goal since November got the ball rolling in just the seventh minute, before Bendtner netted his hat-trick.
The Denmark international followed up a fine header and 18-yard drive with a 62nd-minute penalty to complete his treble, with substitute Gael Clichy wrapping up the result as he struck his first goal since November 2008.
The imposing result sets up a quarter-final clash at Old Trafford against Manchester United, who also stand in the Gunners' way of success in the Premier League.
However, Wenger believes his side have a strong chance of usurping Sir Alex Ferguson's side in both competitions even in the absence of in-form striker Robin van Persie.
The Dutch international faces up to four weeks out with a tear in a ligament at the back of his knee, but Wenger has backed Bendtner and Chamakh to fill the void.
"We have lost van Persie, of course, so for Bendtner and Chamakh to score is very important," said the Frenchman after the game. "It is very important that they have a level of confidence to be successful in the big games.

"You need your strikers to take any chances and Bendtner did that well.
"We need Chamakh with the games in front of us.
"He had a great start to the season until the end of the November, early December when he looked a little bit burned out.
"Now he looks back [to himself] because even in training he looked a little bit tired. It's good for him that he scored."
Wenger, though, warned Bendtner that his hat-trick against the Os does not guarantee him a starting berth at the Nou Camp against Barcelona next week, saying: "You know what, it puts him contention to play against Sunderland. And, frankly, for us that is a vital game."
The Frenchman also quashed speculation that Cesc Fabregas would be fit to face the Black Cats on Saturday after the Arsenal captain said in his programme notes that he hoped to play.
"I personally hope he will be fit next Tuesday," said Wenger. "He has a chance to play against Barcelona.
"I don't think he will be involved on Saturday. There is no chance but we will try with him on Sunday and Monday, and give him a final test Monday morning."
Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade was quick to praise his side after a "difficult night" and believes a push for the npower League One play-offs is not beyond them.
"It was obviously a hard night," he said. "We found a side in good form, with a real strong focus and a spot on attitude.
"Mr Wenger got a performance from his players and with their first three goals I thought they were quite ruthless really. Three attacks, three opportunities, three goals.
"But, still, I am proud of the way we tried to keep the ball and keep passing; that's our and we are not going to throw away the rules that we have and the way we want to play.
"It was a difficult night but we need to go away and learn from that, and try and re-establish momentum in our respective league and try and see if we can push on and attain a top-six spot with the 16 remaining games we have got."

Manchester United winger Nani has revealed how hours of practice as a boy led to him being able to score with his left as well as right foot.

He said: "When I was very young I used to go to the local square where we played football and practice alone.
"Sometimes I would spend all afternoon there, practising with my right foot and then with my left foot.
"I'd practice curling the ball, hitting it hard. I always wanted to improve. Now I know that all my hard work has paid off.
"It doesn't matter to me which side I play on because I am confident of beating my opponent on either side and I can cross and shoot with both feet."
Nani has helped United win two titles and is anxious for a third with the club in the driving seat despite the defeat by reigning champions Chelsea.
Next up are Liverpool on Sunday and Nani told manutd.com: "We want to win the league every season. You don't get tired of winning trophies.
"When I went on my holidays last year, the first week I couldn't stop thinking about how we lost out in the league to Chelsea.
"Thankfully there was the World Cup so I had something else to look forward to. This year, there's no World Cup, so I know it could be a very long summer.
"I don't want that to happen. I want to be on holiday with a big smile because I've won at least one trophy."

Coyle relaxed over Elmander future

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has every faith Johan Elmander will not leave him in the dark regarding his future.
Elmander is out of contract and available on a free transfer in the summer, which has alerted many clubs, in particular after he rejected a 12-month extension to his deal in October.

Coyle has made it clear he wants the 29-year-old striker to remain at the Reebok Stadium, but in his words appreciates "it takes two to tango" as Bolton will have to come up with an offer acceptable to the Swede.
Chairman Phil Gartside is apparently due to speak with Elmander's agent, Anders Wallstein, at some stage within the next fortnight in the hope of brokering a deal.
If not, it is likely Elmander will have his pick of clubs, with Hoffenheim the latest this week to be linked.
Whatever happens Coyle has no doubts Elmander will keep him informed given the bond he has forged with the player.
"I'm surprised it's only the one club he has been linked with this week," said Coyle.
"But I don't get too caught up in it. It doesn't make any difference to me.
"The bottom line is Johan is my player until the end of the season, and he will give me everything he has got for each and every game, as he always has done.
"He is such a terrific player and a great guy to work with, and come the end of the season when a decision is made, whatever happens I'll be very comfortable with it.
"I want Johan to stay, of course I do, but I understand as well he is a top player who is out of contract in the summer, so he is well within his rights to decide what his options are.
"There might be something there Johan feels is the right challenge for him and his family, or an environment he wants to live in, and ultimately that is up to him.
"What I do know is that as and when that decision comes about he will come and tell me because of the relationship we have."
Coyle, meanwhile, believes long-term injury victims Joey O'Brien and Ricardo Gardner will both make their comebacks before the end of the season.
A succession of knee injuries has meant full-back O'Brien's last senior appearance for Bolton was in October 2008, although he did figure in pre-season last summer.
Midfielder Gardner has also been plagued by a knee injury this season, restricting him to just one appearance, in a Carling Cup win at Southampton towards the end of August.
However, both were back in a Whites shirt this week in a behind-closed-doors friendly victory over former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Molde.
"Joey and Ricardo played an hour of the game which is great because when you've been out for a period of time, as both lads have, there is a feeling of frustration," said Coyle.
"But when you're back on the pitch running around again with your colleagues, then it's terrific because they know they're on their way back to recovery.
"They both did very well and are progressing nicely, which augurs well, but they will know they are a number of weeks away from full fitness and we will give them all the help we can to get back.
"I would hope they will both be back before the end of the season, although they have to make sure they are 100% fit before they can show everybody what they can do."

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Real Madrid routed Malaga 7-0 to get back to within seven points of Spanish league leader Barcelona on Thursday.
Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini's first return to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium since being replaced by Jose Mourinho was far from impressive as Karim Benzema opened after 27 minutes and Angel Di Maria and Marcelo made it 3-0 by halftime.
Ronaldo scored his first in the 51st then Benzema made it 5-0. Ronaldo scored a penalty before matching Lionel Messi's league-high tally of 27 goals in the 77th, although the Portugal forward was forced off with an injury.

Both teams finished with 10 men, although Madrid was forced to as Ronaldo's exit came after Mourinho had made all three changes. Ronaldo ended a five-game run without a goal by taking his season tally to 37 to keep Madrid perfect at the Bernabeu after 21 games.
Barcelona won 1-0 at third-place Valencia on Wednesday to move 10 points out on Madrid, which responded to the pressure by scoring at least five goals at the Bernabeu for the fifth time this season.
Pellegrini greeted Mourinho before the start despite the Portuguese coach's disparaging remarks a day earlier when he ridiculed the Chilean coach's decision to lead a smaller club after being fired by Madrid.
Malaga certainly played the part of inferior opponent as it sat back defending while Mesut Oezil and Ronaldo nearly scored first before Benzema broke the deadlock. The France striker positioned himself in front of defender Manuel Torres and used the outside of his right foot to guide home Xabi Alonso's cross into the area.
Argentina forward Di Maria raced in alone on goalkeeper Willy Caballero in the 36th to score when Marcelo's pass skipped over the foot of defender Manolo Gaspar.
Pellegrini looked on helplessly as Madrid blitzed Malaga's defense with one attack after another, and Di Maria found Marcelo with a well-played lob to the left for the Brazilian to send a rising shot past Caballero just before the break.
Caballero denied Ronaldo before the Portugal forward received from Oezil in the 51st and slipped free into the area to fire past the Argentine goalie.
Madrid's offense didn't relent as Benzema guided in Marcelo's cross for his fifth league goal of the season in the 62nd.
Gaspar was red-carded for handling inside the area in the 67th and Ronaldo stepped up to convert his sixth penalty of the season with a rising dagger of a shot.
Caballero stopped Benzema and Ronaldo right after the spot kick before Ronaldo's deft glance directed substitute Sergio Canales' cross past him for the last in the 77th. Ronaldo, who scored at least three goals for the fifth time this season, limped off in discomfort immediately.
Malaga remained second from bottom following its biggest defeat of the season.
After 26 rounds, Barcelona leads with 71 points, Madrid has 64 and Valencia 51. Villarreal, which beat Hercules 1-0 on Wednesday, has 50.
Earlier Thursday, Almeria rallied to draw 1-1 against 10-man Racing Santander.
In other games, it was: Espanyol 1, Mallorca 2; Sevilla 3, Sporting Gijon 0; Zaragoza 2, Athletic Bilbao 1; Getafe 1, Atletico Madrid 1; Osasuna 0, Deportivo La Coruna 0; and Real Sociedad 1, Levante 1.

Luke Skywalker was good, setting up CR's final goal as Ozil's sub. But Marcelo and Benzema were the best.

Great call by Mou not to injure Kaka before he gets traded.
