A police officer attached to the Border Police Unit (BPU) has died after being shot while returning to Mararani Special Operations Group (SOG) Camp in Lamu East.
The officer, identified as Police Constable Fredrick Okelele Shikuku, alikuwa akirejea kambini pamoja na wenzake baada ya patrol mission. The incident happened on Monday, November 2, 2026, at around 7pm, wakati maafisa hao walipokuwa wakikaribia kuingia kambini.
He was reportedly shot in the groin area (kinena), with the bullet passing through his upper right thigh and causing serious injuries Wenzake walimpa first aid kabla ya kumhamisha kwa gari kuelekea Kiangwe, kisha akasafirishwa kwa boti kuelekea Manda Base Camp for further medical attention.
Unfortunately, his condition worsened while being evacuated by boat, and he died at around 1:30am on November 3 before reaching Manda. His body was later flown to Nairobi and taken to Chiromo Mortuary.
Police suspect the attack may have been carefully planned, with the attackers possibly having monitored the officers' movements. Investigations are ongoing, huku hakuna mtu aliyeripotiwa kukamatwa kuhusiana na tukio hilo.
