A group of over traders in Luweero District has camped at PRO Industries Ltd in Ndibuluungi, Butuntumula Sub-county, protesting delays in payments amounting to over 2.5 billion Uganda shillings for maize supplied to the company.
The traders have parked their trucks at the factory entrance, blocking access to the premises and demanding payment for maize they say was delivered more than two months ago.
According to the traders, repeated delays in settling their dues have left them struggling to meet their financial obligations, prompting them to take their protest directly to the factory.
Police have been deployed at the facility to contain the situation and prevent the protest from escalating.
However, the traders have vowed to remain at the factory until the company pays the outstanding amounts. They say they will not move their trucks or abandon the protest until their payments are cleared.
The standoff has disrupted operations at the facility, with the traders’ vehicles restricting access to the factory as they press for a resolution to the payment dispute.
