Traders affected by the devastating October 2025 floods in Kampala's Central Business District took their grievances to the Office of the Prime Minister, demanding the release of Shs20 billion in compensation that President Yoweri Museveni reportedly awarded to them.
The traders, who say they suffered significant losses during the floods, staged a protest outside the Prime Minister's office after months of waiting for the funds to be disbursed. Tensions escalated when the demonstrators blocked access to the premises, insisting that government officials address their concerns.
Police later intervened and dispersed the protesters, restoring access to the office. The traders accused the government of delaying compensation despite assurances that the ex gratia funds would be released to support their recovery from the disaster.
The protest highlights growing frustration among the affected business community, many of whom say they are still struggling to rebuild their livelihoods following the floods that disrupted business operations and destroyed merchandise across parts of Kampala's city center
