Uganda Cranes secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Libya in their AFCON 2027 qualifier at Hoima City Stadium on Tuesday, moving to the top of Group H with four points from two matches.
The Cranes started brightly, but Libya created the early danger. Denis Onyango was forced into important saves, including two interventions to deny Ezzeddin El Maremi. Uganda eventually took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Arnold Vula rose highest to head Allan Okello's free-kick into the net.
Libya came close to finding an equaliser in the 75th minute when El Maremi was presented with a golden opportunity. With the goalkeeper beaten and the goal completely empty, the Libyan forward was only a few yards out but inexplicably lifted his effort over the crossbar.
Uganda held on through the closing stages to claim all three points, while Libya were left to rue a huge missed chance that could have changed the outcome.
