Even with our enormous problems, I will pick freedom any day. Even with our inherent poor leadership, I will pick freedom any day. Even with the rot in our system and the cancerous corruption within government, I will still choose my freedom. Even with the famine affecting my country, I will fight for my freedom.

The colonial master is not and shall never be the answer to any of our problems, we should get our acts right instead of crying foul. if (hypothetically speaking) our fore fathers, who put their lives on the line for our freedom, woke up from their graves and read our posts, they will curse the day they went to the forest to fight the colonialists. We should guard our freedom jealously and not auction it to the richest bidder.

Imagine a whip cracker reading this, atatuchukuliaje sie WaAfrica, mhh? Atatudharau milele, we should push our leaders to perform, we know we can be rich, we have the manpower, resources, know how, tuko sawa, all we need is someone to put us on track (and by someone I mean an African, not a whip carrying slave master).... we are also part of the problem if we have such mentalities.

You are right in some aspects, people don't value independence especially those marginalized by the system, they prefer the colonial era (in which most, if not all of them were unborn or infants), which they think was better, what they don't know is hizo miundomsingi tunazoziona zilizoachwa na wazungu zilikuwa zao peke yao, from the roads, rail, buildings, hospitals, schools etc, they had built them to serve the whites only, we were not in mind at all (we were squatters in our own land, held in camps like prissoners, working without pay, in a system where the black man was of less worth than an animal). Twasema wazungu waje miaka kumi, kisha watupe Uhuru na waende zao, thats imposible especially with the worlds thirst for oil and the prospects of oil discovery in EA, they will rob our minerals nacked for the second time, and treat us like animals AGAIN.

We need to change our thinking of the white man especially the colonialists who we think came to Africa to develop this continent, the true history should be taught in school so that we can know what really happenen during the scramble for Africa, and maybe, just maybe, we can change our perception of the white man. its so sad bad leadership has made us think of the unthinkable, You never know what you have untill you lose it.

All Africans want this. But for some strange reason, it is not happening. I agree we should push our leaders to perform. One way of doing this is to vote overwhelmingly for a return to classical colonialism. Remember in the animation motion picture 'Madagascar 2' what the animals told Makunga after they heard his proposed solution to the watering hole crisis? Remember Makunga's reaction and thereafter how events unfolded?

mi sidhani a lot us really think things through before deciding what is best for us matter of fact we do not understand the value of our freedom as u've put it You never know what you have untill you lose it, instead if anything some comments on this posts shows how much dependent we Africans are on the west for guidance. That is due to either the thinking Colonial rulers left us with or just luck of long term vision.

the same man we want to embrace is the man at the moment who is responsible for most of our woes due to his policies on our continent. the same man is responsible for arming rebels, for us to fight each other, the same man does not allow us to trade fairly yet he wants to come take our land as an investor and pays us cheaply so he can accrue over 90% of the profit, the same man does not allow us to have access to his modern medicine resulting millions of unneccesary deaths in Africa, yet some of us think we'll be better off if he came back and took full control of everything again. where is the common sense there.

the current OAU chair Canal Ghadafi on the day he took the seat he proposed Africans need to form a trade, Deffence union something like the European Union and we should negotiate things as a whole rather as individuals at the moment so that we can benefit from our natural resources. the next day the western media were accusing him, saying he was a man of no integrity and Africans leaders should look at him with suspicious and most did that. he never raised the subject again. i think we need to under stand the core of our problems before concluding we can't be productive on our own. lets look at how much tribal divisions impedes a movement, how embezzelment affects our society not just look at the top but the whole cultural of it in a society, selection of our leaders and their credentials, how do we use our assets within the society.

in short we need to be realistic, stop the cultural of dependency, understand where we are by looking at the worst of our selves candidly and come up with plans that aim to improve our situation ourselves.

People should switch their perspective of the white man and see him for what he is, an opportunistic, racist, sadistic, liar.. The source of all the worlds problem, from the pestilence and diseases to the economic crunch, to global warming. Is this the type of person that you want to rule us AGAIN?? To me its like crying for slavery, because their is a thin line between colonialism and slavery, they are both driven by the same force- racism, and carried out by the same person- a cracker.
 
I don't even know why this is a topic of debate, really?! You would sit down and decide whether you should be colonized or independent? I think It's because most of us here were not alive to experience that time and we have been brainwashed by the "romantic" portrayal of this time by the same people responsible for one of the worst periods of our past.

Sure there is neocolonialism at the moment but it is do to the stupidity and incompetence of our leader but not through chains like it was. Neocolonialism is a result of our leaders begging for funds from the West day in and day out. Do we really think there is such a thing as "donation"? When the West give us funds it comes with conditions and not all conditions are made public. If our leaders want us to be really independent they should make our economies independent from all this unnecessary "donations".

It is sad that most of the countries apparently doing us a "favor" actually made their wealth during the industrial revolution by stilling our raw materials or by paying prices next to nothing so that they can power their industries. It's sad that a person stills gold from you but when they give you copper in return you are full of smile and saying they are truly our "friends".

They took men from Africa to fight wars they themselves started. So not only did they still our natural resources but took away our man power as well. After the war they actually started ripping us more so that they can pay their war debts. They took big strong African men and beautiful African ladies to become slaves in their plantations. These slaves worked for no pay and were highly tortured and abused. The "cheap" labor help the economies of these countries and made millionaires out of them. Yet still when they give us funds we think they are so generous.

Africans wake up please. You got your independence politically now gain your mental independence. There are a lot of countries which were just in the same economic state as us during the independence year but now their economies have left us far behind. INDEPENDENCE IS BETTER AND HOW WE USE IT IS UP TO US.

Freedom? What freedom?? How can you lose something you never had? What we need to lose are the delusions of freedom.


What difference will it make if 40 beggar nations beg as a group rather than as individuals? If anything, collective begging will work against us.

We need to stop begging and start making things.
 
Sio tu hivyo, kwenye hiki kisiwa third to fourth generations have been under France. I also roughly estimate about 70% are unemployed. They 100% depends everything from France (from drinking water to chicken to tomatoes to beer to sea fish etc). Infact I dont have the exact number but many of them have France Passport.

For sure they will 100% vote to belong to France milele amina.

I agree 100% with this statement. Before we can enjoy other aspects of independence fully we need to gain economic independence. The problem is that our leaders still think donations from the West are Africa's way to prosperity. I think we need to build our own industries which would in turn create an economy strong enough to withstand pressures from any outside forces.
 

You are forgetting that it is the same white man who changed the theme of oppression from the barbaric slavery and harsh colonialism to the present day neo-colonialism.

The fact remains Africans as a people/race are not in control of their own destiny and this is purely our own fault. So you cannot blame most of us for wanting to return to the good old days of colonialism.
 

I'm sorry mkuu just a question. Were you present during the time of colonization so that you can tell us who were not there more about those good days? Because some of us seem just to hear about the slave trade, the torture and all the horrific sides of it. Maybe ungetu saidia kutuambia how good they were so we can start cursing the struggle for independence right now.

We have been "independent" for 50 years and things have simply gone from bad to worse. We are already at rock bottom. We have failed miserably at being "independent". So, lets give a break to those who yearn for the good old days of classical colonialism.
 
You see this is why I think Africa is not moving forward. Hatuna misimamo. During colonization we complained about being treated as second rate citizens in our own land. Haya we fought for the independence and gained it. Now the mentality is reversed and we want it back? Wouldn't surprise me if after a few days of being colonized again we would beg for our independence for the second time.
 

Now this is interesting. You know some of us watoto wa juzi. Please tell me more about those good old days. Because maybe my history books have been distorted to only show the bad side like the slave trade, the beating of our people and things like that. Please educate me on the good side of colonialism.
 

It seems some of us were really enjoying the colonial days thats why they want them back... According to me the only people who saw the benefits of the colonial masters were the chiefs (and their relatives) and the home guards, the rest of us were cursing the white man for taking our land and our children to go fight in a far away land.

To quote Mwana FA, mtuambie how good the colonial days were so that we can start cursing the struggle for independence right now.
