King Oyo is not dead: He is critically ill

The Tooro Kingdom has appealed for calm and prayers following the official confirmation that Omukama (King) Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is critically ill.

The development was confirmed in an Official Statement issued by the Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa), Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.

In the statement shared with Tooro subjects and the wider public, Rwomiire said the 34-year-old monarch is currently in a critical condition and called on the public to pray for him.

“This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition. At this difficult and deeply concerning time, we humbly ask the people of Tooro, our friends and well-wishers in Uganda and across the world to keep His Majesty in their thoughts and prayers.”​

The Prime Minister also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information about the King’s health.

“We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition,” Rwomiire said.​

He acknowledged the anxiety caused by the news but called for restraint and respect for the King and the Royal Family, assuring the public that any further information would be communicated through the official channels of the Tooro Kingdom.

“For now, we ask that we stand together in prayer for His Majesty,” he added.​

King Oyo, who was crowned in 1995 at the age of three following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, is one of Uganda’s longest-serving cultural leaders.

He was crowned as the world’s youngest reigning monarch and has led the Tooro cultural institution for more than three decades.

The Kingdom has not disclosed the nature of the King’s illness, nor has it revealed his current location. Further updates are expected from the Kingdom as his medical team continues to attend to him.

For now, Tooro Kingdom is urging the public to remain calm, disregard unverified reports and join the Royal Family and the people of Tooro in prayer for the King’s recovery.​
