Speed limits and speed cameras are based on colonial limits of 50 Miles per hour and 80 Miles per Hour. It seems the law makers were too lazy to convert these figures into the metric systems (converting from miles to kilometers). The result, a long, and tiring travel time, sometimes slower than the speed of a bicycle.
It is time the law makers realize the mistake, adjust the speed limits and make proper analysis of the cause of road accidents instead of attributing everything to over-speeding. Let it not be simply a revenue collection exercise. SUMATRA should be sympathetic to travelers forced to spend more that nine hours to cover a distance of under 500 kilometers.
