iOS 5 was unveiled at WWDC earlier this week and introduced a ton of new features to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Some of the key highlights included a new notifications center, WiFi syncing, Twitter integration, photo sharing and more.
While iOS 5 is yet available to the public, a Gizmodo reader has published a way to forcefully update the iPhone 4 or iPad 2 to iOS 5. The story has attracted well over 150,000 views since its publication a few hours ago and will no doubt be attracting the attention of the boys over at Apple soon enough.
iPhone 4 & iPad 2: How To Upgrade To iOS 5
Basically, the guide shows you to to exploit a security vulnerability related to the Voice Over System. What you need to do is download the iOS 5 IPSW which is currently in beta AND available from Google search or from popular torrent websites. Next connect your iPhone or iPad to iTunes and then click on the "Check for update" while holding the Shift key (in Windows) and select the appropriate IPSW file.
After this is done, you will see a new activation screen will appear, which asks you to activate iOS 5. Hit the source link for details on what to do next.
Now before you hit the link though, be warned that there is no guarantee whether you can downgrade to iOS 4.3.3 afterwards if you find issues with the iOS 5 installation.
