Striker Nicolas Anelka must be kicked out of France's World Cup squad if a report that he insulted coach Raymond Domenech is true, French Football Federation (FFF) vice-president Christian Teinturier said Saturday.

Striker Anelka insulted Domenech in a crude manner at halftime of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico Thursday in Polokwane, French sports daily L'Equipe reported Saturday.

"If the words we have just heard have been used, he (Anelka) has nothing to do there (at the World Cup)," Teinturier told France Info radio.

"If those exact words were said, I can't understand he was on the pitch yesterday (in training on Friday)," Teinturier added.

"He should have been kicked out straight away or have apologized. He can't be training in a France shirt, it's not normal, you can't do that."

Anelka was not a France's training session at their World Cup base in Knysna Saturday. A team spokesman declined to say why but did say captain Patrice Evra had asked to meet the press to make a statement.

The players, the staff and FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes met Saturday, added the spokesman, who declined to say what came out of the meeting.

MINISTER REACTS

The player's insults at Domenech, according to French sports daily L'Equipe, came after the coach criticized his attitude on the pitch before deciding to take him off for the second half.

French sports minister Roselyne Bachelot also reacted to the report, urging the France players to show dignity.

"The very high pressure weighing on Les Bleus does not authorize any form of slip-up," Bachelot said in a statement.

"The players must keep in mind that they're wearing France's colors and are considered as role models by many youngsters. This obliges them to show restraint and dignity," the statement read.

Former France striker Just Fontaine, who scored a record 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup, said Anelka should be sanctioned straight away.

"What's happening to the France team is moronic, deplorable and pitiful," Fontaine told Reuters.

"Anelka must be kicked out."

World Cup 2010 - Foul-mouthed Anelka kicked out

Striker Nicolas Anelka was kicked out of France's World Cup squad for insulting coach Raymond Domenech and refusing to apologise, the French Football Federation said.

Anelka insulted Domenech in a crude manner at half-time of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico on Thursday in Polokwane.

"The comments made by Nicolas Anelka towards national coach Raymond Domenech are totally unacceptable for the French Football Federation, French football and the values they defend," the FFF said.

FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes decided to exclude the striker after Anelka, who was to leave France's base at Knysna later on Saturday, said he would not apologise.

Anelka's insults towards Domenech came after the coach had criticised the player's attitude on the pitch against Mexico before deciding to take him off for the second half.

The player reacted by saying he had words with Domenech but denied having said the foul-month comments attributed to him by French sports daily L'Equipe.

"I have a lot of respect for France and for all my team mates, I insist on that," Anelka was quoted as saying on the website of French daily France Soir.

"I wish to state that the words printed in the press were not my words.
"I did have a heated conversation with the coach in the secrecy of the locker room, between the coach and myself, in front of my team mates and the staff. It should never had come out of the locker room."

The 31-year-old Anelka, who has scored 14 goals in 71 internationals, had faced heavy criticism from the French media for dismal displays in warm-up games and in the team's opening 0-0 draw with Uruguay.

Domenech had still kept faith in him and left Thierry Henry, France's record scorer with 51 goals from 122 appearances, out of his starting line-up for France's two matches so far.

By insulting Domenech, Anelka emulated former French enfant terrible Eric Cantona, who had called national team coach Henri Michel a "scumbag" in 1988 and did not play for France for months as a result.

French sports minister Roselyne Bachelot reacted to the Anelka incident by urging the France players to show dignity.

"The very high pressure weighing on Les Bleus does not authorise any form of slip-up," Bachelot said.

"The players must keep in mind that they're wearing France's colours and are considered as role models by many youngsters. This obliges them to show restraint and dignity."
Former France striker Just Fontaine, who scored a record 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup, had asked for Anelka to be sanctioned straight away.

"What's happening to the France team is moronic, deplorable and pitiful," Fontaine told Reuters.

"Anelka must be kicked out."

France striker Nicolas Anelka to retire from international football after being sent home from World Cup 2010 - report

French striker Nicolas Anelka has announced his retirement from international football after being sent home from the World Cup, according to Sky Sports News.

Chelsea forward Anelka was dumped by France on Saturday after an apparent dressing room bust-up with manager Raymond Domenech during their 2-0 defeat against Mexico on Thursday.

He is reported to have said, "Go f**k yourself you son of a *****," which Domenech responded by replacing the player with André-Pierre Gignac.

The decision was taken to remove Anelka from the squad despite the fact that France are still alive in the competition and need to beat South Africa in their final Group A game to have any chance of progressing.

A statement from the FFF said: "Faced by the refusal of the player to publicly apologise, we took the decision in total agreement with the coach and the official members of the delegation present to exclude Nicolas Anelka from the squad.

"He will leave the French team camp this evening."

Like Eric Cantona before him, Anelka will now be remembered as one of the most controversial players to represent France.

Cantona, who once kicked a spectator in England, also had a spell in the international wilderness after insulting France coach Henri Michel live on television after he was dropped for a friendly match against Czechoslovakia in 1988.

Cantona's tirade against Michel kept him out of the France squad until Michel Platini recalled him a year later.

But now it seems Anelka has stepped away from the national side for good.

It further compounds a disastrous few days for France, who seem destined to be knocked out of the World Cup and need a win against South Africa in their final game to stand any chance of progressing.
