Police in Katwe have arrested five suspects believed to be behind a series of aggravated robberies across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The suspects have been identified as Muwanguzi Believer Eddie, Kato Faisal, Katongole Shafic, Kiyingi Abudallah, and Tumwine Derrick.
According to police, the arrests followed a robbery that occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on July 6, 2026, when five men allegedly broke into a mobile money outlet in Kisingiri Cell, Bunamwaya, and stole an unspecified amount of cash and several mobile phones.
Two days later, police received intelligence that some of the suspects were hiding in Nabisalu, near Katwe Market. An intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of all five suspects.
Searches conducted at their homes in Gangu B Cell, Busabala Parish, resulted in the recovery of two pangas, believed to have been used during the robberies.
Police also impounded two motor vehicles, including a grey Toyota Noah (registration number UBR 796R), which investigators believe were hired and used to carry out the crimes.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to several other robberies, including a boutique robbery in Seeta, Mukono District, on July 3, 2026, and a robbery at a lending office in Kawempe Division. Detectives say they are also investigating the group's possible involvement in other related robberies within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
