The Delegation of the European Union to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC) categorically refutes press reports about possible EU sanctions against the United Republic of Tanzania over Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) between the European Union and the East African Community.

The Delegation of the European Union to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC) categorically refutes press reports about possible EU sanctions against the United Republic of Tanzania over Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) between the European Union and the East African Community. It should be noted that the EU is awaiting the final collective decision by the EAC member states on the signature of the EPAs; the United Republic of Tanzania inclusive. No sanctions have been envisaged if any of the concerned parties do not sign the EPAs.

In this situation, statements by other than the East African Community, the Government of Tanzania and the Delegation of the European Union to Tanzania and the EAC are purely speculative and misinformed of ongoing communication.
