I couldn't agree more.

President John Magufuli hates critics, gay people and accurate statistics

Tanzania’s leader, the “Bulldozer”, runs off course

Excerpt

The president has been foolish in economic matters too. The effect of his closure of the Citizen was the opposite of what he intended: the shilling’s true rate dipped further. After Mr Magufuli’s row with the paper, capital is reckoned to have fled to Kenya, which Mr Magufuli views as an adversary. Foreign-exchange controls are widely said to be imminent.

Two years ago Mr Magufuli appalled investors by demanding that the country’s biggest mining company, Acacia Mining, a subsidiary of Barrick Gold, based in Canada, should pay the absurd sum of $193bn in back taxes—about four times Tanzania’s gdp—for allegedly undervaluing its gold exports. Acacia’s gold exports have since dipped sharply. Several past and present Acacia officials were arrested last year. The World Bank says foreign investment since 2014 has more than halved. “A lot of us are jittery,” says a businessman in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital. “But it’s the unpredictability that really scares us.”

We know that already. He already clamped down on press like any washed up dictator does.

I am more interested in your OWN rebuttal of Economist article.

I guess you agree with Economist that Maguful is NOTHING BUT A DISASTER - and GOD help TZ if he continues for another 5yrs. And sadly it appears he will be doing 10yrs of DAMAGE to TZ and region politics & economy.

CCM really messed up big time there when they settled for unknown little Magufuli just because they didn't like Kikewete didn't like Lowassa.

Unfortunately they can only write articles in newspapers, Best to be ignored..Magufuli is not desperate for love from newspapers..

That is their opinion, Tz remains one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and the infrastructure JPM is building has never been witnessed since Tz independence..
What matters is service delivery to Tz not what newspapers think.
Ask yourself why the economist does not critisize China which has the worst freedom laws, media crackdown and banning of social media like FB, Google etc..infact Their own website is blocked in china!

Kama hawa jamaa wanasema kweli, basi ninakubaliana na JPM kwenye kuwachukia gays, na ninapingana nae kwenye kuwachukia critics na kuzichukia accurate statistics.

I think you're looking at lagging indicators. It's not like Kikwete handed JPM an economy that wasn't growing. JPM was handed a robust economy that has averaged 7% the last 15yrs and he is wrecking him apart. Like I have said previously JPM is of course well meaning and probably think he is doing a great job - but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It obvious that TZ economy is on a rough patch now and your guy has basically banned any debate on the statistics - double whammy.

Jpm has done 2 years with 7.2% and 7%, brought down corruption and signed laws to stop mineral exploitation..That is what matters to Tz voters..Opinions from newspapers are just that.."opinions"
Arent you the same people who blasted the economist when they wrote a negative article about Kenya SGR? 👇👇👇
Did Kenya get a loan to build a railway, or vice versa?

Centrally planned economies like what magufuli is trying for tanzania have collapsed in most parts of the world....look, freedom alone may not guarantee economic success...but repression most certainly guarantees economic failure...this has already started to manifest in Tz..when you start clamping on media and forcifully closing liberal forex bureaus...you are definately flying into failure...its already full blown in sudan...they started exactly same way tanzania is presently..the indispensable element remaims freedom...unfortunatanetly freedom and CCM cannot be used in one sentence...

There is no central planning in TZ..This a charasteristic of jubilee govt..You want to plan for food security using galana kulalu( Spectacular failure) You want universal health(NHIF is a mumental corruption disaster) You want to solve housing ( New housing taxes are a scandal waiting to happen)
It doesnt even stop there..you control intrest rates instead of allowing markets to determine them?
Jubilee is just a communist regime

I think you are a disaster, Magufuli is a president who wish all the Tanzanians to feel the fruits of their land. Stop nonsense, if the citizen didn't do a mistake why they didn't go to court. Magufuli is leading Tanzanians and not Kenyans or those stupid from the economist. They will write whatever they fill like but Magufuli will remain on power.

Only the forex shops which do not follow the government rules were closed and not all the forex shops like how people propagate. Some businessmen were abusing their freedom on this business and the gvt cannot remain silence afraiding on what people will say.
