Charles is an astute political analyst, and I concur with his second proposition. Regarding the first assertion that Lema has committed treachery, I remain highly skeptical until substantive verification is adduced.
The second proposition concedes that indeed there exists a constricted democratic space within CHADEMA. This is not inherently detrimental, however, the democratic deficit within CHADEMA is comparatively more tolerable than that prevailing in other political formations such as CCM and ACT Wazalendo.
WHY DO ALLEGATIONS OF BETRAYAL WITHIN CCM FAIL TO PERMEATE THE PUBLIC DOMAIN?
It is because they resolve internal contradictions through the coercive apparatus of the state. In other words, once you are identified as ideologically divergent from your comrades, you are branded a traitor and you are incapacitated from even convening a press conference. For at that precise moment you are encircled and placed under security surveillance, and they annihilate you in utter silence!
Consequently, ideological dissent in all parties is equated to betrayal or espionage, but within opposition parties it is exceedingly facile to label someone a traitor because the party lacks state instruments to sanction a member who has ideologically diverged.
What such a member will do is convene a press conference to declare, "I hold these views." Hence, the sole recourse for his erstwhile colleagues who are at variance with him is to subject him to character assassination by alleging that he has been compromised or purchased. And that is precisely what is transpiring within CHADEMA.
Yet we, the members of CCM, have digressed and embarked on a narrative that CHADEMA is devoid of democracy, that there is an intolerance of ideas. Let me jog your memory:
What of Axon Tulia? What of Kasim Majaliwa who was confined in detention for several hours without his knowledge that he was under detention, merely to preclude him from collecting nomination forms? What of Ndugai? What of Samuel Sitta who was outmaneuvered overnight on the pretext that a female Speaker was now desired?
THEREFORE, LET CCM CONCERN ITSELF WITH ITS OWN INTERNAL CONTRADICTIONS AND DESIST FROM INTERFERING IN THE AFFAIRS OF CHADEMA.
