Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has warned that the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) will not tolerate individuals he described as agents of foreign interests or anyone he said undermines Uganda's national security and development.
Speaking on Tuesday during the pass-out ceremony of more than 1,000 UPDF recruits at Kaweweta Basic Military Training School, presided over by President Yoweri Museveni, Gen. Muhoozi said the military remains committed to protecting Uganda's national interests.
He said the UPDF is steadily improving the welfare of its personnel through better salaries, expanded housing, modern office facilities, improved military schools and upgraded training grounds for both active soldiers and reservists.
Addressing the new recruits, the CDF urged them to maintain their physical fitness, uphold discipline, courage and loyalty, and cultivate what he described as a strong "warrior spirit."
Gen. Muhoozi also said Uganda could no longer tolerate systemic corruption, poor service delivery or individuals allegedly working on behalf of foreign interests to weaken the country.
He further accused sections of the political class and media of undermining national security, saying the UPDF and other security agencies would act against what he called "wrong elements" within both sectors.
"We shall not allow foreign interests to determine our national narrative," he said, adding that the military would "never allow anyone again to undermine the national interest in whatever shape or form." Gen. Muhoozi said.
“We are very aware of the insidious machinations of negative elements against our country, but the good news is that we will not permit their shenanigans.” he added.
