“From today, I am appointing General Katumba Wamala as our envoy to the Middle East. His ministerial position is on halt. He will report to me from now on,” Muhoozi said.
The announcement places Katumba Wamala’s ministerial role on hold as he takes up the new assignment, with the former Army Commander expected to report directly to the CDF.
The nature and scope of the new diplomatic assignment were not immediately detailed.
General Edward Katumba Wamala is the most senior officer among the 19 Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) generals who officially retired from active military service on August 20, 2026.
President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, presided over the formal send-off ceremony at State House Entebbe. This milestone officially concluded General Katumba's historic 47-year military career.
General Katumba joined the military in 1979. He rose to the highest echelons of security leadership, serving uniquely as both the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
