National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has appointed Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe as the party’s Acting President, replacing Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, whose four-month tenure has ended.
Bobi Wine praised Dr. Zedriga for steering the party during her time as Acting President, saying she kept the party’s “revolution” alive and thanking her for her dedication and service.
Nambeshe, who is NUP’s Deputy President for Eastern Uganda and the MP for Manjiya County in Bududa District, will now lead the party in an acting capacity. Bobi Wine urged NUP leaders and supporters to give him the necessary support.
The appointment comes as Bobi Wine remains outside Uganda after leaving the country following the January elections, amid claims by CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba that he had ordered his arrest. Bobi Wine has said he will return when he believes it is safe.
