Cesc in car crash .... .... but he is ok ... ....

Cesc Fabregas emerged unscathed from a car accident on Monday which marks a change of fortune for the Arsenal captain, who fears he has not heard the last of his hamstring problems.

Fabregas pranged his car on the A41 in north London on the way to training and later tweeted: 'I'm absolutely fine, nothing to worry about, these things happen............. '

Wenger - It's vital to trust the players now

Arsène Wenger says this is no time to lose faith in the players he has spent so long developing. The Arsenal manager and his players have come under fire this week after slipping seven points behind Manchester United in the title race - the final trophy on their radar after defeats in the Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League. Various pundits have had their say on Arsenal's perceived shortcomings but Wenger gave a robust response at his pre-match press conference on Friday. The Frenchman backed his squad, suggesting that critics do not appreciate how much his team has achieved despite their tender years.

"This team is 23. When we played against Barcelona, they were 27 and a half," said Wenger. "It is important we realise this team is absolutely amazing for what they do at their age. One day people will understand that, but at the moment, I am not sure many people do. "How old is Wilshere? Nineteen. It looks like in England you cannot play without him. How old is Fabregas? How old is Nasri? Now it is a crucial moment where we have to trust these players and not listen to opinions of people who have not worked half a day in football." Wenger has chosen a different path in recent years to super-rich rivals Manchester City and Chelsea - one that involves identifying and nurturing young talent. He offered a staunch defence of his methods ahead of the Blackpool game. "Do you know how much work and dedication is behind a team like that?" asked Wenger. "How much mental strength is behind a team like that?

We are in a strong position.

"They have not been built just like that, it is a real process of club work, coaching work - that is not just to go out and buy a player for X amount of money. What is hard in football is to build a team and work with the players every day."

Wenger hits out against 'superficial judgment

Hitting back .. ... .. Arsene Wenger

Arsène Wenger is fighting back against the "superficial judgment" that has been passed down on his team this week.
Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Blackburn last weekend left them seven points adrift of Manchester United in the title race - albeit with a game in hand - and deepened the gloom that set in among fans after cup defeats to Birmingham, Barcelona and United. But the media coverage of Arsenal's so-called 'disastrous' predicament bothers Wenger and he put his point across strongly when he faced reporters at Friday's pre-match press conference.

"I'm against superficial judgment, that's what I fight against," said the manager.

"For example people ask 'why don't you buy central defenders?'. We have a better defence than Man United if you look at the numbers, but nobody mentions that. And should we kick Vermaelen, Djourou and Szczesny out? What for? "We've done well for our age as we're second in the league. Is that a disaster for you? There are teams who invest ten times more than us, one player cost more than the whole team and they're behind us. I don't understand the way people think. "Do you judge this season or the last four seasons? Some of the clubs behind us have done nothing for 20 years, yet suddenly they get a lot of praise. I don't understand.

"We have eight games to go and are in a position to fight for the championship so let's give the maximum. If we're disappointed at the end then OK. Why do you say it's a disaster when we're second in the league? Do the 18 clubs behind us have a fantastic disaster? "Trophies are one way to judge a club. They're not overrated as it allows you to say you've won a trophy, but would you swap winning the FA Cup for playing in the Champions League? Is it a trophy or not to be in the Champions League? Is it more important to win the FA Cup? "We do as well as we can, and if it's not good enough it's not good enough. But what I deny is that everything is suddenly negative. We've built this club. Look at the players in this team I'll speak to you in ten years."

Stan swoops! Billionaire Kroenke plans Arsenal takeover
after snapping up shares

Poised to strike: Stan Kroenke (left) is set to launch a takeover bid

Stan Kroenke is poised to spend nearly £300million to take control of Arsenal. An announcement on the Stock Exchange is expected to confirm that the American billionaire will buy the 16 per cent stakes owned by Danny Fiszman and Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith, taking his overall shareholding at the Emirates to 62 per cent.
The move has been sparked by the serious illness of Fiszman, who wants to sell his stake having tied up his affairs in a beneficial trust, knowing his children do not wish to maintain links with the club. Kroenke has also had to act to head off a rival takeover from Alisher Usmanov, the Russian oil tycoon who owns around 27 per cent of the club’s shares and is in a financial position to make the same 32 per cent purchase. .... .... ..... ..

It is with great sadness that Arsenal Football Club announces the death of Danny Fiszman after a long battle with illness. He was 66. Danny, who joined the Board of Directors in 1992, was a much loved and respected figure at the Club and will be deeply missed by his many friends and colleagues at Arsenal. During his time as an Arsenal Director, Danny, a hugely successful businessman whose love of Arsenal was obvious to all, was a leading influence at the Club. He played an integral role in the Club’s move from Highbury to our new stadium, working tirelessly for many years leading the team which created one of the finest sporting arenas in the world.

Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood said: “Danny Fiszman was a visionary Director, a gentleman and a true Arsenal fan. “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend Danny. His voice, wisdom and presence around the football club he so dearly loved will be sorely missed.
“Arsenal Football Club will forever be indebted to Danny for his invaluable foresight and contribution during the move from Highbury to our new stadium. “Our thoughts at this time are with Danny’s wife Sally, family and friends. We have lost a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend.”

Injured quartet may return to face Liverpool

Thomas Vermaelen

Arsène Wenger hopes to have four players back for the visit of Liverpool this weekend. Johan Djourou (shoulder) and Wojciech Szczesny (finger) were last seen departing major cup ties against Manchester United and Barcelona respectively and both face fitness tests ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash.

Alex Song (knee) and Denilson (toe) could return to bolster Arsenal's midfield but Bacary Sagna (knee) is a major doubt while goalkeeper manuel Almunia (knee) is also doubtful. "We have no [new injuries] but we have a big doubt on Sagna," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday. "Djourou and Wojciech are question marks. Will they be fit? That all has still to be decided. We have two more days to find out. It could be a possibility that they could be available.

"It's difficult to say [what their chances are]. We have a test today [Thursday], we have a big test to see how they survive the training session. That will be very important. "Denilson and Song have a chance to be available as well."

Thomas Vermaelen will not be fit to face Liverpool but Wenger confirmed that the Belgian defender is back in full training after missing most of the season with tendon problems. "I am not reluctant [to use him] but he is not match fit yet," said the manager. "He just joined the team this week so we have to be a bit patient with him."
