ROBIN ROCKED ... Van Persie can't believe it

after getting his marching orders

LIONEL MESSI sent Arsenal crashing — but he needed a helping hand as luckless Robin van Persie picked up an astonishing red card. The Argy wizard got the ball rolling with Barcelona's first and finished the job with their third. Yet sandwiched between those strikes was an crazy sending off after the Gunners had Barca on the ropes. A Sergio Busquets own goal on 52 minutes drew Arsenal level and left the Spaniards needing to score twice. But just four minutes later Arsene Wenger's men were rocked as Van Persie picked up a second yellow for kicking the ball away.

It left the Dutch hitman stunned as just ONE SECOND had elapsed between clueless ref Massimo Busacca blowing the whistle and Van Persie's wayward shot. And the Londoners had little hope of keeping the Catalans at bay as Xavi and Messi finished the job to end Arsenal's Champions League dream. It did not take Barca long to find their rhythm and Pedro threatened early on. Arsenal's hopes took a blow when Wojciech Szcsesny was forced off after 15 minutes. The Gunners stopper was replaced by Manuel Almunia after Dani Alves' free-kick whacked his finger. Lightning almost struck twice when Alves then clattered Samir Nasri — but Wenger breathed a sigh of relief as the France star hobbled on.
Barca almost found a way through after 27 minutes after some pinball passing carved out a half-chance for Pedro. But the Spain star lost his balance and darted his shot over the bar. Messi was next to threaten when he threaded his way through only to be robbed by Johan Djourou. On 33 minutes, Almunia was up to his old tricks. The calamity keeper booted a clearance against Laurent Koscielny yet got off the hook as Wilshere scrambled clear.
Arsenal were hardly getting a look-in and survived by the skin of their teeth when Adriano walloped the post. The full-back tore into the Gunners box unannounced but smacked his shot against the woodwork. Van Persie picked up his first booking in the dying stages of the half when Alves went to ground clutching his face. It looked harsh on the Dutch star. Yet it was about to get much worse for the Gunners as Messi cashed in on Fabregas' blooper to put Barca ahead. Andres Iniesta picked the ball up after Fabregas' failed back-hell on the edge of the box and slotted through Messi. He then dinked over Almunia and with the keeper beaten ran on and hooked a volley home. Incredibly, that was his 31st Champions League goal for the Catalans — setting a new club record. Arsenal had barely had a sniff all half yet found themselves level on 52 minutes. Nasri whipped in a corner from the left that Busquets cannoned into his own net.
Arsenal's joy was short-lived, however, as Van Persie saw red just four minutes later. And incredibly his second yellow was harsher than the first. The striker broke through and walloped a shot wide — after ref Busacca's whistle. And he was booked — and so sent off — even though there was next to no chance that he heard the peep in the Nou Camp cauldron. David Villa and Alves then threatened as Barca suddenly looked back in the driving seat. Almunia took a whack to the head on the hour after bravely snatching a cross off Pedro's feet. The keeper than pulled off a stunning save to deny Villa as Arsenal clung on for dear life. Yet with 69 minutes gone the hosts finally found the key as Iniesta weaved through before Xavi slotted home.

The hammer blow came just 60 seconds later after Koscielny hacked down Pedro in the box. Messi teased the ball into the far corner from 12 yards to leave the Gunners sinking. They still needed just one goal, though, and Nicklas Bendtner had a sniff late on — but his first touch let him down and Victor Valdes nabbed the ball off him. And that was it for Arsenal, whose Champions League dream is over yet again.

STUNNED Robin van Persie blasted the "joke" referee that KO'd Arsenal's Champions League dream. Ref Massimo Busacca gave Van Persie a crazy second yellow for kicking the ball away - only moments after blowing the whistle. At the time Arsenal were level with Barcelona, who went on to win 3-1. And Van Persie raged: "It had a big influence on the outcome - at 1-1 it was all to play for - and it was a total joke because how can I hear his whistle with 95,000 people jumping up? "There was only one second from his whistle to my shot and it is a joke. I explained it to him but he had been bad all evening." Boss Arsene Wenger added: "We lost against a good team. "In the first half we resisted pressure - I think the second would have been very interesting if we had stayed 11 against 11 - unfortunately it was not the case. "There are regrets when you see how we went out - the way we did, it is very difficult to accept."

Arsenal's grand total of zero shots gave the goalkeeper literally nothing to do but pick the ball out of the back of his net after Busquets' own goal… at least until the 88th minute when he raced out to foil Nicklas Bendtner's run towards goal.

What were you playing at?

Wenger has his say with the referee at the final whistle

‘How can you kill a football game like that? ‘We lost against a very good Barcelona side — congratulations to them and good luck for the future — but we have many regrets because we didn’t expect to lose the game like that. I feel sorry for people watching the game. ‘If you have played football at a certain level you cannot understand that decision. It’s impossible. I just spoke to UEFA people. They are shocked as well.’

Barcelona have never lost when Busacca has been in charge.
He oversaw last season’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates and Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League final of 2009. Arsenal did not manage a single shot on target, compared to Barcelona’s 19 attempts, and victorious manager Pep Guardiola said: ‘We played the perfect game.’

But Wenger felt Arsenal could have triumphed if Van Persie had stayed on, saying: ‘I am convinced we would have won this game.’ Cesc Fabregas tweaked a hamstring after 15 minutes of the match and is rated as a doubt for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Manchester United. His error set up Messi’s stunning opening goal and the Arsenal skipper later tweeted: ‘I take full blame for the result tonight. One of the worst moments of my life. I apologise.’

Jack Wilshere, who was Arsenal’s best player, couldn’t resist a sly dig at Busacca.
‘Arsenal fans great as always!’ he tweeted. ‘Sorry about the result, good luck to Barca, great team! Oh yeah, and the ref was good as well.’

Famous ref blunders...

*Massimo Busacca’s dismissal of Robin van Persie was the latest poor decision against English clubs in Europe
* Norway’s Tom Henning Ovrebo needed police protection and was verbally abused by Didier Drogba after rejecting Chelsea claims for a string of penalties in the 2009 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

* French official Michel Kitabdjian caused riots during the 1975 European Cup final between Leeds and Bayern Munich when he wrongly disallowed Peter Lorimer’s goal for offside. He also turned down two Leeds penalty appeals.

* The worst of the scandals saw Spanish referee Emilio Guruceta Muro take a £20,000 bribe from Anderlecht ahead of their UEFA Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest in 1984. Forest lost the game 3-0 having won the first leg 2-0.

Wenger and Nasri both charged by UEFA

UEFA has made the following announcement:

"UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Arsenal FC coach Arsène Wenger and the English club’s midfielder Samir Nasri following last night’s UEFA Champions League first knock-out round second leg against FC Barcelona in Spain. "Both are to face charges of improper conduct, and their cases will be heard by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on Thursday 17 March."

Khe khe khe kheeeeeeeeeeeeeee the referee has a catalogue of poor decisions and they continue to pick him to officiate crucial games. UEFA is a toothless bulldog they should implement video technology as soon as possible with a third referee. They are worried now what will happen to their beloved club khe khe khe kheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Bust-up: Arsene Wenger confronted referee Massimo Busacca (right)
after the final whistle and Arsenal's demoralising defeat in the Nou Camp

Arsene Wenger denies Uefa improper conduct charge Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied a Uefa charge of improper conduct over his comments to referee Massimo Busacca after his side's Champions League exit. Wenger has been charged with using "inappropriate language" towards Swiss official Busacca after Arsenal's 3-1 defeat at Barcelona on Tuesday.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie was controversially sent off in the game. "I deny completely any charge. I do not understand where it comes from," Wenger told a press conference on Thursday. "It is a shame for me that the referee took the decision to send Robin van Persie off. It was the wrong decision. "The first leg was a fantastic advert for football and the second game has been destroyed. People now will only remember the sending off. "It would be good for Uefa to show some humility, to apologise for what has happened, not charge people who have done nothing wrong."

EUR IN TROUBLE ... but Arsene Wenger
has hit back at UEFA chiefs

ARSENE WENGER last night branded UEFA 'arrogant dictators.' And he wants an apology for ref Massimo Busacca's performance in Arsenal's defeat at Barcelona when he sent off Robin Van Persie. The Gunners boss will fight the "improper conduct" charge UEFA levelled at him following his angry confrontion with Busacca at the end of Tuesday's game at the Nou Camp.

Wenger said: "It's not to me they must apologise. They do not punish me. It's Arsenal that has been punished. "When you have a football game of that stature, you cannot come out with decisions like that and show a lot of arrogance on top of that. "We can all understand that we can make wrong decisions, but after that it becomes dictatorship. It's not any more commonsense." Wenger blamed Busacca for Arsenal's exit after Van Persie's harsh sending off for time-wasting. Wenger added: "I deny completely any charge. It is a shame the referee took the decision to send Van Persie off. It was wrong. "The first game was a fantastic advert for football and the second game has been destroyed. The sending off killed the game. "A bit more humility would do UEFA some good. To apologise for what happened would be much better than charge people who have done nothing wrong." But skipper Cesc Fabregas broke ranks with Wenger by saying Barca deserved to beat the Gunners. Fabregas told elconfidencial.com: "It was not fair but we shouldn't blame the referee for the elimination. Barcelona were better and always score in the end."

One thing for sure after Cesc mistake in Nou Camp he's in trouble and will be leaving the Gunners as Arsene do not tolerate that type of behaviour (a cool £50 million plus will do the trick ... .... ... ) mafioso leteni mpunga ... ..same goes to Nicklas Bendtner who missed a golden opportunity to send Gunners in the quarter finals .... .... ..... Nicklas miss was similar to Thiery Henry's final with Barca ... ... .... ....

Gunners for life no player is bigger than the club.
