A Russian-Armenian joint venture will manufacture a one-dose coronavirus vaccine in Armenia for domestic use.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RIPF), in cooperation with the Armenian Ministry of Economy and leading Armenian pharmaceutical company Liqvor, will manufacture the Sputnik Light vaccine.

Sputnik Light is the first component of the Sputnik V vaccine (26 serotypes based on recombinant human adenovirus (rAd26), this according to a statement released by the Armenian Economy Ministry.

Batches of the vaccine will first be sent to Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology for testing.

Armenia approved the production of Sputnik Light on September 6. In February 2021, Armenia authorized the use of two-dose Sputnik V vaccine.

The ministry says the Sputnik Light vaccine has been safely and effectively used in several countries and that it doesn’t require special storage conditions.
