Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has given State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere 72 hours to apologise to him, threatening to remove her from her ministerial position if she does not comply.

In a post on X on Sunday, September 20, 2026, Muhoozi wrote: “Nameere has exactly 72 hours to apologise to me. If she does not, I will remove her from her ministerial post.”​

He later said he was “coming to rescue the people of Masaka from Nameere” and claimed that residents of the city support him and President Yoweri Museveni rather than the minister.

The latest ultimatum comes days after Muhoozi issued Nameere a seven-day deadline on September 16, demanding an apology and warning that “nothing will save her” if she failed to comply.

•The dispute followed the circulation of a video clip that appeared to show Nameere warning Muhoozi against interfering with NRM legislators. A longer version of the footage, however, showed that she was addressing Patriotic League of Uganda Secretary General Daudi Kabanda rather than Muhoozi, according to reports.

Muhoozi had also previously said that Nameere could be removed from Cabinet if she was “misbehaving,” while discussing possible changes to the government team.

The dispute has also drawn Kabanda into the matter. He has questioned Nameere’s election as Masaka City Woman MP and called for a by-election, according to reports.

As of Sunday morning, there was no publicly reported response from Nameere to the new 72-hour ultimatum.

The development comes as Nameere also faces an election petition challenging her victory in the Masaka City Woman MP race, with the case scheduled for hearing at Masaka High Court on September 22.​

Update: Nameere apologises to Muhoozi over edited video.

State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has apologised to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba over a maliciously edited video that made it appear as though her remarks were directed at him.

Nameere said she would never attack Muhoozi, whom she referred to as “my brother.”

The original, longer version of the video shows Nameere addressing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, warning against interference in the affairs of NRM MPs. The shorter clip omitted that context, creating the impression that she was criticising Muhoozi.

The apology comes after Muhoozi publicly gave Nameere a seven-day ultimatum to apologise, warning of consequences if she failed to do so.

Exactly, he can demote, promote , appoint and fire yet he's the CDF.

Political science is complex and has many dimensions. When a leader appears to be paving the way for their child to eventually take over the presidency, some African countries may become skeptical and question whether the process is genuinely democratic.
