The NRM chairperson for Masaka City, Rogers Bulegeya, has sharply criticized Minister Justine Nameere following her controversial remarks about Buganda and its people, escalating an already heated public dispute.
Speaking publicly, Nameere reportedly claimed that intelligence levels in Buganda were "quite low," suggesting that people from the kingdom were not smart as the people from western Uganda. When challenged to withdraw the remarks, she reportedly declined, insisting she stood by every word she had said.

Nameere also criticized fellow minister Balaam Barugahara for publicly alleging that her father, former Defence Minister and former Agriculture Minister Vincent Ssempijja, was among individuals involved in land grabbing in Rakai District. She argued that Balaam had acted unfairly by singling out her father while failing to accuse others she believed were involved.

According to Nameere, her father was being unfairly targeted by people seeking to undermine her politically and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.
Her comments sparked strong criticism, particularly from leaders and residents in the Buganda region.
Responding to the remarks, Bulegeya threatened to convene a press conference at which he said he would present what he described as video evidence of alleged election malpractice involving Nameere. He claimed to possess footage showing individuals allegedly stuffing ballot boxes with votes in her favour, though he did not publicly present the alleged evidence.
Bulegeya also appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to intervene before tensions escalate further.
In addition, he directed NRM members in Masaka not to attend meetings involving Nameere and called on the Buganda Kingdom, through the Katikkiro, to reject any gifts from the minister, including a vehicle she is reportedly yet to donate.
