i see people doing this all the time what i dont understand is,what is that cup protecting the lnb from? is it heat or water? all lnb are water tight i tried to open one sometimes even the circuit inside is sealed with silicone . I see people covering lnbs with cups i dont understand at all.
In fact, signal loss during bad weather has nothing to do with lnb.....but 45,000 feet up in the sky where the dust particles and other stuff block the signal.
What causes signal attenuation is mainly
wave absorption by the rain drops. There is also
some signal scattering, due to refraction and
diffraction of electromagnetic waves in and
around rain drops. Very heavy snow can also
affect signal quality, but it is generally less likely
to interfere. Satellite mini-dishes are designed to
minimize the effects of adverse weather. Still, it
does make sense to consider somewhat larger
dish in areas where heavy rains or snow are
relatively frequent, to compensate for signal
attenuation.
