Hello Gurus!

I've been away for a while and the fever is very high i have to seek your highly professional advice before marshalling my setup. I moved to a place where my west view is totally (it hurts), totally blocked and i don't want to take my setup to the roof coz i will have a hard time climbing up there to fiddle with it. I am an ardent fan of Nilesat, now that i don't seem to nail it i thought about facing East (Yahsat 1A to be precise) coz i understand it has almost the same channels as Nilesat. I've successfully nabbed 7E, Astra4 and Amos 5 though they don't excite me. My question is, is it possible to nab this Yahsat using a 90cm dish in Nairobi? My location is behind Chomazone Mombasa road.

Mtuko2,
As given in attached photo, ensure the diameters of the fully assembled dish measures between 71 and 71.5 inches. If the diameters are not equal, the prime focal point will be misplaced and you could lose 10 to 20% in signal quality for fringe satellite reception (e.g. Nilesats). You may use steel wire to tighten the diameters A-D, B-E and C-F as per the suggested measurements. Once these three wires (diameters) meet / touch at the middle, then the original focal point of the dish will be aligned.

For the Eurostar 180Cm dish, the ratio of diameter and focal length (distance between the LNB position and the bottom of the dish) is given as:
F/D ratio = 0.38;
where: F is focal length; D is the diameter.
Therefore, since D = 180Cm, then F = 68.4Cm

Also, if dish is badly dented, first dismantle it and straighten the six petal-like plates with a light hammer. In addition, ensure the three LNB holder arms are straight. These three arms meet at the focal point. Therefore, the distance from the center of the LNB holder to the bottom of the dish should be approximately 68.4Cm.

Hae Sir i followed up on your advice and assumed the Focal length of my 180cm pf to be wrong. i measured the distance from the LNB holder to the centre of the dish now i am getting 69.1cm. could i be going wrong or what ? I lost the whole European beam and am only getting the African beam . from where should i measure my focal point ? Tip of LNB or LNB holder ? was the former focal point correct and the one am aiming for wrong ? does the focal length change depending on feedhorn used ie whether C band or Ku band ? NB I also tried a stronger signal sat eg Amos 5 or Nilesats but the results were dismal. On another note all my side LNB's signal quality droppedby a margin of 10-39%. Heeeeeeeelp before i ruin my parabola further !!!!!!!. Hehehhehe

Make sure our dish is not tilting towards one side, the LNB holder must be parallel to the dish edge. If you are using KU band inverto LNB, insert it half way. The distance from the LNB holder to the centre should be 68.5cm.

Am having trouble in getting all tps on ses 5. Which one should I maximise on?

Tolgos thanks will do it when i find some good time patience is the key

Bro, try this tp 12034H27500 carrying the SES promo channel. Maximize on it and blind scan your stb. As I said somewhere else, this bird is the easiest to nab cos the footprint covers Sub-Saharan Africa. This was my first bird to nab, when this un-curable disease called ASAS came calling in.

Anybody in the Roysambu tell me wat bird those 6ft are pointing because i counted at least 6 from where i was doing an installation.
