Hello All glad to be on this kingdom of satlings.Work up very early to see if admin had approved my membership and couldnt wait. my location in nairobi .Browsed on this topic from 1st page to last and have some queries.

1. bought a new srt 4950h from Riwira on 24th ,there is a posting by great elder Kungu for a step by step process of upgrading ,cant find again( please share a step by step guide/process.already have the patch on usb which i can see

2.Have had already re-oriented my former 90cm (dstv )to 7 deg East ,i now have Eutelsat 7A @ ,Astra 4a (but for some reason i cant see the SES 5) with good signals .most of the channels sabc1,2,3 ,etv etc showed once and then got scrambles$$$. Question how do i unscrambled them or will the upgrade help in this ,is the Astra 4a same to ses5
(lnb is univeral eurostar ***.srt 4950h ) any other sats i can get within this 7 deg east with an additional lnb ??

3.Also bought a 130 cm dish ,invertro single ,currently installed facing 7 deg west .Target is nilesat 201/eutelsat 7W @7.3deg west,eutelsat 5 @ 5deg west. my signal on nilesat is 79% but quality is around 39-49% for most channels with picture breaking badly at night .will be climbing up today to fine tune with the help of a local sat guy.

I have caught the ASAS bag and am liking it.Thanks forum member for the help

Which decoder are you using. Make sure the dish (which I hope is at least 1.8 m in diameter hooked with a c-band lnbf) is locked on intelsat 20C.
Under lnb settings select your lnbf frequency , normally 5150 or 5750 for C band depending on your lnbf.
Go to Intelsat 20 at 68.5°E - LyngSat and pick the frequency, symbol rate and polarization to work with. Polarization depends on Lnbf skew. You should avail a visual aid (eg tv) near you to check if you lock on the Tp.
From experience aljazeera tp is a better tp to track with.
With everything set properly you should now be able to hit green. Try scanning this Tp alone and then blind scan if everything okay. Depending with the receiver, not every C-band tp can be found by blind scanning; you may need to feed in manually.
Note: You may need to patch your decoder with the latest software.

Hi forum members, I am facing a unique problem with starworld channels (PGM 5 and PGM 15) on Yahasat 1a. Even after updating my firmware from 132 to the latest, the channels just won't open. The biss keys are correct when I view them using 8280 on my srt 4922 strong receiver. My signal quality on the said channels is 68%, am also getting the HD channels like AD Nat Geo, Dubai One, Dubai Racing and others with good quality. Some one Help me resolve the issue of Starworld movies and series channels.

My maiden post. Newbie/Noob here.
Thanks to all FTA community. I used to read from Kungu1, Lagat, Ogolla and a few others from Nairaland forum and RDI. They are the ones who made me get an idea on FTA. So in 2010, got myself a 90cm Ku offset dish, Astrovox 290, ordinary eurostar LNB 0.5 and managed to lock on to Eutelsat 7a and the SES 5 to date. In summarry, i know how to read Lyngsat charts, Azimuth, elevation but slight challenge on the skew.
Having gone through all the posts on this forum i have decided to try and nab Nilesat 201/Eurelast 7 West, i repeat, Eutelasat 7 West using an ambitious plan of 90cm Ku offset dish. I just want to lock on the bird, the other elusive transponders can wait for now. My location is Nairobi (1.3 S, 36.748 E) changing dish size is out for now. My experience is with single SD LNBs
From the posts, seems the best LNBs are

1. Inverto black twin LNB (does it have 2 LNBs fused which means 2 output ports and how do i connect it to my receiver? Do i have to buy the DicsEqc 1.1 gadget)
2. Inverto Single black LNB
3. Samson LNB
4. Stargold LNb, is it same as Fuji?

Having my dish size and location in mind, which LNB would achieve best signal from the bird (i want any TP from it). I visited http://www.satlex.de and i have an idea of how to skew my LNB and where to point dish. How do the HD LNBs work or any LNB can do provided the FTA receiver is HD? I am asking this because i see only 1 port for LNB and others for RF out, RF in Loop, etc.

I have a Eurostar 90cm dish, i confess, i don't know how much offset it has, read somewhere it is about 22 degrees. I am able to receive both Eutelast 7E and SEs5. For me to nail Eutelsat 7W/Nilesat 201, does it mean i have to lower my dish by 16.08 degrees? Working from known to unknown, i currently nail SES 5, so my "jua kali knowldege and calculations SatLex Digital :: Startseite indicates my elevation is 55.30 degrees for receiving SES 5, for Eutelast 7W, indicates 39.22 (55.30-39.22= 16.08) So should i use a Protractor,measure 16 degrees and lower my dish by that angle?

I want to upgrade my FTA receiver, from the discussions here, SRT 4922 is the king, had really wanted 4950 but seems most here are for the 4922. I have settled for 4922 unless someone has a better alternative(budget for a receiver is between 6-11k).
My 90cm D*S*T*V Dish been lying idle, so i want to deploy the same as a second dish to receive a documentary/news TV(not local news as i have a FTA DVB-T2), which bird would be ideal for me other than SES 5, Eutelsat 7 East(Africa beam) as i receive those. Not sure which one (forum members have mentioned Yahsat 1A, Amos, NSS12)

My cable been out for 3 years in the sun, i need to replace it with RG-9 (i read that on this forum) how do i identify i have been sold that grade instead of the normal 75ohm coaxial cable. Is it written on the cable?

Finally, i plan to do my shopping next week(2nd week of January 2014), i plan to concentrate on the following shops in Nairobi as suggested by forum members.

• Digital Life electronics

Members in the house, it is very easy to nail yarsat and yamal 402 @54.9e in one lnb here western using 100cm dish. Tp 11045 v 40122 but only 9 channels are there in yamal.

The MENA beam is stronger. FTA-Nash is in Nairobi and as you can see from the beautiful piccs he posted,he is getting it on a 90cm dish

freddygaz has managed to get some tps from the Eastern beam using a 165cm offset.
kungu1 on the other hand has managed to get all tps on both MENA and East beams using his 2.4m

Finally I get only the MENA beam on my 120cm.However my interest on this is fast fading ever since the departure of starworld and star movies. The only cool stuff I get from there is RT HD,Fashion One HD and Dubai Sports HD
