OK. So I decide to update my Freesat V7. I backup user data and update. Factory reset. I grab the userdata file to restore my channels. Unbeknown to me, file is corrupt. BOOTLOOP! Bootloop. Sema kuhema. OK. Nikarudi srt 4950 roho safi. I went back to Strong. I was due to travel at the time anyway.

So I come back from travels and luckily I have an RS 232 cable (that I already crossed over). It will not work if it is not crossed over. I also luckily have an old desktop with an RS 232 port.

There is a freesat pdf document:
"How to update box by RS232 Cable. Freesat V7 HD/V7 Combo/V7 Max/V8 Super/V8 Golden
V2.22.0.0" Use it when in trouble.

I followed it to the tee.

Nothing.

Then I changed from COM3 to COM1. Magic. Perfect flash. Niikuwa nimekaza matako stima isiende nikifaya hiyo kazi. 😀.

My V7 is back to life. I am not using any of my backedup data mpaka key file sitaki.

I scanned anew.

If anyone has a current keyfile on his freesat V7 combo nisaidie although naona imeroll keys yenyewe.

(Currently on latest Dec 2018 firmware).

In the same spirit, I had for months been waiting for a friend of mine to give me an appointment of the one Saturday that we were to undertake the same procedure 'cause my V7 Combo has been hanging and rebooting for quite some time..... I texted asking him whether he had settled for one but got no response.

That gave me the thought of looking for an alternative and I embarked on searching for how to hard reset my toy and was assisted with a link where I got that same tool that Cheupec used.

By God's grace my PC has RS232 port.
I used three strands of wire, crossed 2 and 3 as indicated, first round nothing, all gray. I tried again nothing....

I looked closely on the PC's port to countercheck my connections and there was the issue. I had counted from pin 5 as 1 onto 1 as 5.

I counted well and hooked my wires onto 2, 3 & 5 and hit on Start and voila! transfer started and I successfully was able to reset, upgrade and continue watching.

After succeeding I thanked my friend for failing to respond to my text for I may not have known how to do it had he set a day to assist me.

He was out of our borders though......

Don't take risks buy rs232 DB9 female jacks and solder a cable my friend. It pays to have one.

This one of the simplest sats to set up. You just harvest water 😂😂 have your dish face straight up, then set skew to around between 7 & 8.
