In the recent months, Tanzania has seen an alarming increase in violation of basic human rights. Activists, critics, bloggers and anyone who criticizes the Government is either killed, jailed, harassed, or goes missing.
Last month, November 2016.
1) A young man by the name of Ben Saanane went missing. Ben was a major critic of President Magufuli. Reports have been made to police but police remain silent.
2) An opposition MP from Arusha Godbless Lema was arrested, humiliated in front of his kids and jailed with no bail because he shared his dream that one day President Magufuli will die. Lema is among the most vocal critics of President Magufuli. He is still in jail with no bail awaiting his case in Feb 2017.
This month, December 2016.
1) Another young man and owner of the most popular Tanzania blog and media outlet Jamii Forum Mr. Maxence M. Melo has been arrested with no bail for refusing to share metadata of his blog users.
2) 7 unrecognizable and partially dismembered bodies found in Daresalaam were said to be those of illegal immigrants according to interior Minister Mwigulu Nchemba. "All faces of the 7 bodies were torn into pieces beyond recognition". Police quickly buried the bodies and closed the issue with no comments.
Last year, November 2015.
1) Alphonse Mawazo another opposition party Chairman for Geita region was buchard by an AXE to death. Mawazo was an opponent of CCM party in his region. His gruesome execution is reported and documented online.
In addition Tanzania Government has;
1) Banned televising all Parliamentary sessions.
2) Enacted a cyber criminal law that is a complete violation of freedom of expression.
3) Banned all forms of public protesting.
4) Banned all forms of meeting by opposition parties weather they are indoor or outdoors.
This petition is to ask UN Sec General Ban Kin-Moon or his successor and the international community to intervene the increasing alarming violations of human rights in Tanzania.
We cannot continue to be silent and allow our innocent people to be killed and violated.
