OVERVIEW

The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) was established in 1997 by the Tanzania Investment Act to be the primary agency of the government to coordinate, encourage, promote and facilitate investment in Tanzania and to advise the government on investment policy and related matters.

TIC deals with all enterprises whose minimum capital investment is not less than US$ 0.5m if foreign owned or US$ 0.1m if locally owned. Enterprises engaged in mining and petroleum follow the approval process contained in their respective laws. TIC assists mining and petroleum investors in obtaining permits and authorizations required by other laws to set up and operate investments.

In 2001, TIC introduced ‘One-Stop-Shop’ investment facilitation services. The One-Stop-Shop services gives investors access to key permit issuing authorities at TIC such as Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA), Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Ministry of Labour and Employment (MLE), Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlement Development (MLHHSD) and Immigration Department (ID).

PROPOSED Launch of TeIW

TIC’s efforts to promote investment and to improve Tanzania’s business environment have lately been strengthened by the Agency’s key business facilitation initiatives.. TIC wants to make national and international investors’ life easier by simplifying business regulations and compliance with rules. TIC wants to make Tanzania a regional leader in the ease of doing business (and namely as reflected in The World Bank’s international ranking) and win over the interest of potential investors in the economic opportunities of the country.

That’s why in 2013, TIC launched a new and innovative website including an online service to investors called eRegulations (www.tic.co.tz). eRegulations provides clear and accurate information about business Procedures such as starting a business, paying taxes, hiring workers, or trading across borders. Procedures are described step by step, from the investor’s point of view. In case of a problem or if extra information is needed, a request for assistance can be sent online, through the eRegulations website. Each request received an answer by TIC’s eRegulations by 24 hours.

On 25h September , 2023 TIC is launching another innovative service to investors: the Tanzania electronic Investment Window (TeIW) allows a foreign or national investor to access the One Stop Centre’s (OSC) company start-‐up facilitation services. It allows for the registration of companies online, simultaneously, with Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) and all six Social Security schemes. Ultimately, this system will provide services that mirror the services currently provided by TIC at the OSC including work permits, derivative land rights and all other fiscal and non-‐fiscal incentives.

TeIW, isavailable on tic.co.tz/teiw) represents a digital leap forward for many investors: it should boost the international attractiveness and competitiveness of Tanzania as an investment destination. It illustrates that Tanzania is becoming a pioneer and a leader in business facilitation in Africa.

Time has come for TIC to promote the results of its commitment to investment promotion and business facilitation. The official launch of the Tanzania Investment Window to be organized on 25th September , 2023.
