Police in Nakaseke District have arrested 22 individuals in connection with the alleged unlawful possession of wildlife species and suspected wildlife products.
The arrests followed a late‑night operation on 17 August 2026 at about 11:00 p.m., when officers manning a snap checkpoint intercepted a white Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UAV 523K. The vehicle was reportedly carrying hunting equipment, suspected wildlife products, and 22 occupants.
A number of items were recovered and secured as exhibits, including hunting nets, spears, pangas, knives, roots and leaves of unidentified species, smoked and fresh suspected wild meat, three pairs of oribi horns, five bushbuck horns, and porcupine quills.
The 22 occupants were arrested and detained. Authorities confirmed that the suspects will be transferred to the Uganda Wildlife Authority for further management and investigation.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat poaching and protect Uganda’s biodiversity.
