The Kisutu Resident Magistrates' Court on Wednesday adjourned to January 13, next year, an abuse of office case facing two former cabinet ministers Basil Mramba and Daniel Yona.

The two, who served during president Benjamin Mkapa's rule, are accused of occasioned the loss amounting to 11,752,350,148/- through tax exemptions.

Resident magistrate John Utamwa adjourned the case because the panel of magistrates hearing the case was still verifying proceedings ready to be handed over to the defense side for the latter to prepare a counter submission on whether the accused have a case to answer or not.

Early, magistrate Utamwa told the court that review of the proceedings had been delayed due various reasons, including power cuts.

Mramba, Yona and former treasury principal permanent secretary Gray Mgonja are accused of failing to take reasonable care to discharge their duties by unjustifiably signing government notices that led to the loss of the said amount of money.

In February, this year, the prosecution brought 13 witnesses. In the course of the trial, the prosecution tendered in court 26 exhibits. The prosecution alleges that the trio willfully committed the offence between 2003 and 2007, in respect of a firm known as Stewart Assayers.

The case was instituted following three years of investigations by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) and the police into the suspicious hiring of Alex Stewart (Assayers) Government Business Corporation (ASA) to audit gold production in
Tanzania.

The corporation was in 2003 controversially assigned a contract which saw it receive a whopping 65bn/- (USD 50 million) in gold audit fees. It completed the assignment and left the country in August, 2007.

The ASA was paid an average of 1.3bn/- (USD1 million) every month from June 2003 to August, 2007.

Why can't they adjourn for 20 years we have already known the truth.

Kwanini hii KESI ISIFUTWE? Hivi JK and Co wataendelee ku-dillydally hadi 2016 na hizi case (EPA inclusive)?

Hivi sasa mission yao imekuwa accomplished na hizi kesi zitapigwa dana dana halafu zitakuja kufutwa, end of the story!!
