Xenophobia and its effects

Ni mambo ya ajabu sana, nimeingia Nairobi, mji mkuu wa Kenya jana jioni, habari niliyoikuta hapa imenistajaabisha sana, ni kwamba wanasema wale wanakwaya waliopata ajali kule Tanga na Raisi wao kutuma ndege ya jeshi kuja kuchukua miili yao, alifanya hivyo kwa kuwa wale wanatoka mji unaoitwa Thika ambao ni makao makuu ya wakikuyu (moja kati ya makabila hapa Kenya). kwa hiyo wanasema ni ukabila ndio umemsukuma Raisi wao (mkikuyu) kutuma ndege na wanasema ingekuwa ni wajaluo au kabila lingine asingefanya hivyo!

Sina uhakika na ukweli ulipo, lakini vyovyote vile imenishangaza sana hata watu kuweza kuongea vitu kama hivyo! Anyway kesho narudi nyumbani na ndio habari nitakayorudi nayo!
 
Wewe umefika huko jana jioni. mimi nometoka huko juzi jioni. Suala la wakikuyu ni kawaida Kenya wee sikiliza lugha inayotumika katikati mwa jiji la Nairobi ni Kikuyu tupu utafikir ndio lugha ya taifa.
 
mimi sidhani kama hiyo ni sababu pekee bali naamini nchi inawajali na kuwalinda raia wake. ukabila ni njia ya kututenganisha lakini hyo haiko sana huku kenya.

Hata mimi nilifikiri hivyo kwamba Raisi ametuma ndege, kwa sababu ni Raia wake, lakini niliposikia kwamba wanasema eti sababu ni kabila lake, nilishindwa kuelewa hata mtu anawezaje kuanza kusema hivyo?

 
Na sisi kama hatujafika huko,basi ni very close.Kwetu kama it was the case, then ungesikia "ni kwasababu either ni mkaskazini ama pengine muislam ama mkristo".
 
I find the reporter quite disgusting. Based on hearsay from an account of one accident victim he has demonized Tanzania people and country. He has not mentioned what kind of help was demanded by the accident victim so that money was demanded from her. Maybe she asked for a vehicle to take her back to Nairobi. Was any money required by the bystanders to remove the people from the vehicles? apart from removing people from accident vehicles what other role are bystanders supposed to play? What happens under normal circumstances in accidents involving Tanzanians? Is the help accorded normally better than what the Kenyans received? Also is the opinion of a bystander worth an headline? Below is a facebook extract of the conclusion that Kenyans are making after reading the report.

This is one comment from many that were going around. You can feel the anger felt by the writer. I hope the reporter is happy, that he has achieved that which he wanted to achieve. This is how reporters work to fan hatred and violence in Kenya. No one should blame the writer of the comment on fb as he is reacting to a report in a national newspaper which he believes cannot write rubbish.
 
I think all that ails Tanzania boils down to one common problem, education (or the lack of it in this situation). The cowardly act of xenophobia shown mostly against Kenyans is because Tanzanians assume that Kenyans are a threat not only to their vast idle land, but to the limited positions available in the job market. Granted, in an interview pitting five Kenyans and five Tanzanians, considering all variables are equal, the Kenyans will bag more positions than the Tanzanians, that's a fact. Get your act right and get the education system working again, make sure your children are getting an education not just singing sh*ty bongo flava music.

I do not think we should be too hard on the reporter on this. The reporter was relying on information given by the survivor as Dhuks has pointed out. But we also need to look at this in a wider perspective. Take into consideration the victim's background. If she is from Nairobi or Thika, anyone would understand why she would have expected 'swift' response. But sadly, Wami is not in an easily accessible location, and anyone who is familiar with the geography of the area would appreciate the fact that the injured managed to be taken to the Muhimbili National Hospital within hours! One only needs to imagine a similar incident taking place in rural Kenya, away from the city. Another contributor here, gangi I think, pointed out the low traffic volume at the time of the accident.
The callous behaviour of some of the villagers, while inexcusable, can be attributed to one or two rotten apples in the basket. After all, every village has its madman!

While we dissect and analyse every bit about this incident we should be thinking of what needs to be done in the future since we don't have a solution to accidents. Maybe it's time to talk to our govts about investing in aerial quick response teams. A few of those VIP carrying choppers could be configured to take emergency rescue personnel to wherever disaster strikes.

While still here, let's also cast a look at the Tabora accident. The regional administrators responded by taking extra medical personnel and supplies with them to the remote health centre where the injured victims of the accident were being attended to.

So the 'supposed' slow response, I feel, was due to the exceptional circumstances with regard to the location and resources at the disposal of the concerned organs. Ask the passengers/motorists who had to endure an 8 hr delay after the accident as the road was blocked and it is easy to understand why you can't get everyone to hospital in 15 mins.

Wachina wakitangaza kilugha wanapata sifa, sawa pia wajerumani, wajapani na wengine 'weupe' lakini miafrika isitumie lugha zao. Tatizo siyo lugha bali ni kutumia redio vibaya kwa mfano kueneza chuki, ugomvi au ubaguzi. Mfano mzuri ni Rwanda, lugha moja, lakini lugha hiyo hiyo ilitumika kupitia redio kueneza chuki. Labda wangetumia kifaransa tu matatizo yasingetokea.
 
Reginald12 thanks for being such a reasonable poster even when disagreeing with some of the thoughts and ideas put forward here. It's sad to say but it's not what we've come to expect from some of your compatriots whenever Kenya is mentioned. I look forward to engaging with you (and even disagreeing sometimes) going forward and hearing/seeing your thoughts on the issues we discuss here.

Sorry for going off topic but you re such a rarity on these pages that I had to say something.

kenya kuna makabila zaidi ya 50. utaanzisha redio ngapi za kukidhi haja ya kila kabila?? hauoni makabila yasiyo na uwezo wa kumiliki redio yanamezwa na kunyimwa haki ya habari kisa kakabila kao masikini au ni kadogo??...Chukulia Dar es salaam kwa mfano radio one iwe ya kizaramo ,clouds iwe ya kinyakyusa, kiss fm iwe ya kikurya tutafika hapo

mfano wako wa uchina na radio ujeruman na japani hauna shida kwani wanatumia lugha za kitaifa ambazo kila raia wa nchi husika anazifahamu ni kama kiswahili kinavyofahamika kuwa ni lugha ya taifa TATIZO NI LUGHA ZA MAKABILA si za kimataifa
