A 35-year-old Batwa woman has been found dead in Biizi Village, Murora Sub-county, Kisoro District, following an alleged domestic assault.
The deceased, identified as Sharriloti Uwimana, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Robert Banyanga, after the couple had a domestic dispute on Thursday night.
Residents said the couple had been drinking together at Biizi Trading Centre before Banyanga allegedly left and later returned carrying sharp objects, which he reportedly used to attack Uwimana.
Banyanga is said to have fled the scene after the incident and escaped into the nearby Echuya Forest.
Residents and relatives, including Robert Bakeine, said the couple had a history of domestic conflicts, particularly after consuming alcohol.
Residents who saw Uwimana’s body said it had visible injuries consistent with an assault.
The incident was reported to the Murora Sub-county Police Aid Post, which alerted Kisoro Police. Officers visited the scene, examined the body and later handed it over to the family for burial.
Police have launched a manhunt for Banyanga as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Uwimana’s death continue.
