Police in Buyende District are investigating the suspected murder of 56-year-old traditional healer Elizabeth Namukose, whose body was found partially buried in a shallow pit in a banana plantation in Busisiro Zone, Namukunyu Parish, Bugaya Sub-county.

The body was discovered after Tom Iseja, a nephew of the deceased, noticed dogs pulling a piece of cloth from the pit behind the family residence. A foul smell and swarms of flies raised further suspicion, prompting residents to search the area and uncover the remains.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Samson Lubega said preliminary findings indicate that Namukose was allegedly killed on August 18, 2026, in what investigators suspect was a revenge attack. The matter was reported at Bugaya Police Station on the same day.

Namukose had been living with 40-year-old Aggrey Lubale, with whom she operated traditional healing shrines in Namusikizi and Busisiro zones. Police said no arrest has been made, but detectives are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Family members, however, point to longstanding domestic conflicts and financial disagreements within the couple's relationship as possible motives. Namukose's daughter, Minina Nankwanga, alleged that her mother had suffered repeated domestic violence and had previously asked Lubale to leave the home, but he refused.

Nankwanga also recounted an earlier incident in which she alleged that Lubale attempted to strangle her mother using a piece of cloth and another occasion when he allegedly mixed poison into a 20-kilogramme bag of maize flour before later warning the family not to eat it.

Iseja said the couple had also disagreed over money earned from their traditional healing practice. According to him, Namukose was regarded as possessing the spiritual gift behind the practice, while Lubale allegedly demanded most of the earnings, claiming to be the household breadwinner.

Police investigations are ongoing as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding Namukose's death and bring the suspected killer to justice.
