President Yoweri Museveni sends a pointed message to Ugandaโ€™s opposition, saying that without irregularities, they would have no foothold in the country.

In his post Election Speech yesterday, Museveni highlighted that of the 21 million registered NRM voters, 18.5 million were of voting age, yet a significant number did not turn out.

โ€œImagine if all 18.5 million of our eligible voters had participatedโ€”opposition support would have shrunk to just 2.5 million. The opposition would effectively cease to exist,โ€ Museveni said.

He also recalled the 2021 elections, claiming that opposition parties, particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP), relied on cheating, including infiltrating over 2.7 million votes into ballots in Buganda and Busoga- which were NRM strongholds but still lost.

Museveni added that some Bad elements still exist within the opposition, but the government would crush them, and certain disputes would be addressed in court.

The presidentโ€™s remarks portray his stance that the ruling NRM remains Ugandaโ€™s dominant political force, while opposition parties continue to face serious challenges in gaining nationwide support hence no opposition in Uganda.

He is actually right, many of his supporters did not vote
