Here are some of history's most notorious killers who are believed to have eaten their victims. Stephen Griffiths Crossbow Cannibal: Stephen Griffiths murdered three prostitutes before eating them PA The self-styled Crossbow Cannibal was found guilty of butchering three prostitutes and eating their bodies in 2010. Griffiths, who idolised Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, skinned his victims, chopped up their bodies and cooked them before gorging on their flesh. The deranged 40-year-old former public schoolboy even filmed some of the sick rituals at his home which he chillingly described to police as the slaughterhouse. The psychology graduate boasted to detectives that cannibalism was part of the magic of killing Susan Rushworth, 43, Shelley Armitage, 31, and Suzanne Blamires, 36. Anthony Morley Killer chef: Former Mr Gay UK Anthony Morley killed his boyfriend before cooking part of his thigh PA The former Mr Gay UK murdered boyfriend Damian Oldfield before cooking and eating his flesh. Morley, who was 36 at the time, slashed Mr Oldfields throat before stabbing him multiple times in April 2008. The chef then carved a piece of flesh from the 33-year-olds thigh, seasoned it with fresh herbs and fried it in olive oil before eating it. Morley then walked to a nearby takeaway wearing a bloodstained dressing gown and flipflops and told staff he had killed someone because he tried to rape him. Paul Durant Confession: Killer Paul Durant wrote to the Mirror admitting he had eaten his girlfriend Armed robber Paul Durant confessed to eating his girlfriend Karen Durrell in a letter to the Daily Mirror from his prison cell in Spain. The heroin addict admitted to battering the mum-of-two to death with a mallet after fleeing to the Costa Blanca. He boasted: After I killed her, I cut her body into small parts, eating what parts of her I found edible. I finally disposed of her in small rubbish bags. She knew she had to die. Robert Maudsley Brain eater: Robert Maudsley attacked a fellow inmate at Broadmoor Hospital Maudsley, 55, was in Broadmoor Hospital for the criminally insane after garrotting a man when he committed his second murder in 1977. Maudsley, and another inmate, took a third patient hostage and locked themselves in a cell, where they tortured their victim before cutting the top of his head off. According to a guard, the man was found with a spoon hanging out of his head and part of his brain missing, leading to Maudsley being dubbed 'cannibal' and 'brain-eater' by fellow prisoners. Maudsley was found guilty of manslaughter and sent to Wakefield Prison, where he killed a further two prisoners and was convicted of double murder. Peter Bryan Cooked in butter: Peter Bryan fried his victim's brains PA Bryan killed Brian Cherry, cut off both his arms and one of his legs and fried his brains in butter in February 2004. Nine weeks later, while detained in Broadmoor, he murdered a fellow patient. Bryan, who has paranoid schizophrenia, had previously spent several years in Rampton after he murdered a woman. Armin Meiwes Internet ad: Armin Meiwes advertised for a willing victim Getty Meiwes, 46, was given a life sentence for murder in 2006 after he killed Bernd Jurgen Brandes, 43, at his home in Rotenburg, Germany, in 2001. He met Mr Brandes on the internet after the victim replied to an advert placed on a website asking for someone willing to be slaughtered and consumed. The killer took his victim back to his farmhouse, where he cut off his penis, which both men then tried to eat. He later stabbed Mr Brandes to death before cutting his body into sections and freezing them. Miewes was said to have eaten around 20kgs of his victim when he was arrested in December 2002. He was originally convicted of manslaughter, claiming that Mr Brandes had asked to be killed and eaten, but this verdict was overturned and he was found guilty of murder after a retrial. Jeffrey Dahmer Grim discovery: Police found flesh and a human head in Jeffrey Dahmer's fridge AFP Serial killer Dahmer was jailed for murdering 17 young men in America between 1978 and 1991. He was believed to have lured his victims to his apartment where he sedated them before murdering and dismembering them. He is then believed to have eaten parts of his victims and US police found partly cooked human flesh in Dahmer's freezer and a human head in the fridge. Jose Luis Calva Girlfriend murder: Calva stored parts of his victim's body around his apartment, including her bones in a cereal box Getty Calva was arrested in 2007 after police found the remains of his 30-year-old girlfriend, Alejandra Galeana, in his apartment in Mexico City. It was reported that a torso was found in a bedroom closet, an arm and a leg in the refrigerator and bones in a cereal box. A hand and a foot were said to have been discovered being boiled in a pot, and meat, also thought to be human, was being fried on the stove with lemon juice. Albert Fish Sick taunts: Albert Fish wrote to his 10-year-old victim's family describing how much he enjoyed killing and eating her PA The serial killer and paedophile kidnapped, murdered and ate a 10-year-old girl from Manhattan. Six years later, the sexual deviant tormented his victims family by sending a letter graphically detailing his crime and the pleasure he gained from the murder. But the letter was traced back to Fish and he was arrested and convicted. He was executed at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York on January 16, 1936. Andrei Chikatilo Serial killer: Andrei Chikatilo murdered and mutilated more than 50 people Daily Mirror The serial killer and rapist befriended his victims before killing and eating them for his sexual gratification. While in custody, the Ukrainian confessed to murdering and mutilating more than 50 people. He was finally arrested in one of the largest Russian police operations in history and executed in Rostov in February 1994.
