Police say they have cracked a burglary gang that stole almost dhs10 million from 30 houses in one month.
The head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Brigadier Khaleel Al-Mansouri, said burglaries occurred at villas in the Mirdif, Jumeirah and Rashidiya areas while the owners were away in May.
Our investigation led us to two suspects from Tanzania who were knocking on the doors to check if anyone was home, he said.
If someone was home, they claimed to be beggars looking for money, Al-Mansouri added.
If the house was empty, they would break in and steal belongings.
They stole gold, money and other valuables from the houses worth dhs10million.
Al-Mansouri said: The suspects even used teargas on dogs at two villas before committing their crime.
Two men have been arrested, one was caught by a police patrol and the other was arrested at a hotel in the Naif area.
Colonel Ali Bin Ganem, from Dubai Police, urged residents to notify the police if they were going on holiday this summer. Officers would then make daily checks on their property.
He said: Its a useful programme as the participant just puts details on our web site and then go away and our patrols will look after the house.
He added: We want a summer without burglaries.
