Fernando Torres's scoring form dramatically improves when he is facing Nemanja Vidic, while Vidic misses tackles and his disciplinary record plummets. Sportsmail looks at their previous encounters...

Liverpool 0-1 Man Utd (Sunday, Dec 16, 2007)

The first meeting between the pair... Vidic is largely anonymous during the players' initial clash. After Carlos Tevez's 43rd-minute tap-in, the closest Liverpool come to scoring is a missed header from Rio Ferdinand which falls at the feet of Dirk Kuyt, but Patrice Evra clears the danger. There is little to show the rivalry lying in store.

Javier Mascherano is sent off for taking up Torres's argument with referee Steve Bennett. Vidic is lucky to escape red after successive fouls on the Liverpool front man.

Man Utd 1-4 Liver pool (Saturday, March 14, 2009)

Having been sent off at Anfield in the September, when Torres was an unused substitute, Vidic is dismissed again. He made a first-half mistake which set Torres clear to equalise and was later red-carded for fouling Steven Gerrard on a bad day for United.

Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd (Sunday, Oct 25, 2009)

Rio Ferdinand is to blame for Torres's goal, but Vidic still manages to complete an impressive hat-trick of red cards with a late foul on Kuyt that is deemed worthy of a second yellow.

Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool (Sunday, March 21, 2010)

Torres towers above Vidic after five minutes to open the scoring. Vidic later pulls his shirt and Torres gets a yellow card, but Wayne Rooney and Park Ji-sung turn the game United's way.
