Trade Minister Sanjay Tanna has warned that Uganda could face load shedding within the next year unless urgent measures are taken to expand electricity supply.
Tanna said wealthy investors should be encouraged to install rooftop solar systems under the Presidential CEO Forum and feed excess power into the national grid through net metering.
He cited the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) at the Independence Grounds as one of the successful examples of net metering.

“Within the next few months, in my own opinion, maybe one year maximum, we have a fear of going into load shedding. An immediate solution was that these rich people, under the Presidential CEO Forum, need to be encouraged to invest in solar on top of their roofs so that they become sustainable and release energy for new developments. I think we have about three.” Hon. Sanjay Tanna.
