United States of Africa!!

United States of Africa!!

Its a good one, but think about the union we have. The United Republic of Tanzania. Until today/yesterday in the parliament we still do not know if we can travel to Zanzibar without a passport. Good luck son, even Ian Smith told Mugabe it will take 1000 years to be free and you know what happened.

I can understand that, but does that makes everything go Nyerere way? That's why I said in one of my prior post that, it is a dream that is attainable. EU did it, why not Africans? Let us look on the goods of the Unity First.

"Umoja ni Nguvu" we all know about that but in this case Its hard to work due to our differences (culturally and economically) and at this scale of about 52 countries its almost impossible..., even EU countries like UK did not like the idea of leaving their strong currency to the favor of EU Currency.

In EU due to the economic differences everyone who had energy left the likes of Poland and Albania to go to countries like UK because there was more work and better payments (the likes of Professors from Poland went to UK to do Unskilled work just because of better payment..

In Africa rich countries like South Africa would not like this idea because even now they have problem with foreigner (Zimbabweans and others) which once they had gone even to the extent of killing them (just because they thought that these people were taking their jobs)

I believe we can learn from EU, there are good things in EU, we all know that. Can't we?

One thing I see is this, most of the current African leaders are far lesser men that the African leaders who fought for independence from colonialism; N'krumah, Luthuli, Nyerere, Kenyatta, to name just a few. Would these leaders stand by impotently, while Arab racists in Sudan rape black women and slaughter 200,000 black Africans? Nyerere had the guts to invade Uganda to get rid of the homicidal maniac mass murderer Idi Amin.

Let me point out what we ALL know, but do not speak about. The continent of Africa is the richest continent on planet earth with oil, gas, minerals and brilliant hard-working people. So why are the millions of ordinary people of Africa the poorest, sickest, most hungry and deseased folks on the face of our Earth? Are better than this? Yes we are, I believe that, we are better. Every right-thinking, moral and proud African must declare personal war against this present situation.

Would a United States of Africa work?

Do you think African leaders should agree to speed up the economic and political integration of their continent to pursue the goal of a United States of Africa?

'Pop star and activist Bono Vox in 2008 while in Japan has called for the creation of a United States of Africa, saying that a "pan-continental identity would serve as a catalyst for resolving its conflicts".'

Is this the time for U S of Africa?

It is one of the hardest topic maxshimba.

I may work, but not easy

Are you serious?

Are you serious?

As I said before, what Africa needs now is the assurance from the big powers. Let us be realistic and practical and think of a Federation of African States along the lines of the European Union. Yes we can.

This is the problem of us Africans oops those who call themselves leaders I may say, we are clamouring of federation, uniting and what have you. The agenda is not from our people but few individuals who have stolen a lot of tax payers’ money and their resources and would like to continue to do so in the name of unity. (Tanzanians refused the EAC federation but the leaders think otherwise). You can’t force a marriage at the 21[SUP]st[/SUP] century although we are to believe the majority of our people are still in the Stone Age. The unity Nyerere advocated was genuine; the unity Kenya advocating now isn’t genuine.

We have witnessed unities of Yugoslavia, Sudan and now Tanzania going nowhere except calamitous results. Of course it hasn’t happened in Tanzania yet, but if you look carefully you will realize it’s just a matter of time before it happens. Just go across the border in Kenya, Somalia, DRC, SA, Egypt, Libya, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda etc. the problems are there to be seen and these people who call themselves leaders do not realise that we the people who toil day and night to pay the taxes do not want much, but just decent life and the worth of the country which our fore fathers left us. The agenda for unity is not ours and anything which does not come from the people themselves will fail no matter how much force you’ll exert.

The lies which continue unabated that EU has a federation is misplaced and people who are in Europe will tell you that, it’s just a myth and nothing will ever be achieved. (Check where the Euro is heading) There is no way the British or Germany let alone Italy, France or those who really matter will give away their autonomy.

The agenda for unity is not ours and anything which does not come from the people themselves will fail no matter how much force you'll exert.

How did you come out to this?

do you expect western wawaachia muungane ili muwe powerfull. mbona gaddafu kiuongo chenu anapigwa mpo kimya. after some years mngekuwa na muunganiko mpaka kwenye sherehe mngekuwa mnachangiana.

It is not easy, bro, but anything is possible.

"The United States of Africa" may become reality

JOHANNESBURG - As Libya's leader struggles to keep his grip on power, one of his pet projects appears to be moving ahead at the African Union, which took initial steps Tuesday toward creating his grand plan: the United States of Africa.

AU officials met Monday and Tuesday at the organization's Ethiopia headquarters to discuss the formation of the African Union Authority, an institution that would replace the existing AU Commission with the aim of eventually bringing Africa's countries under a single unity government.
For years, Muammar Qaddafi has touted the idea at AU summits and even canvassed West Africa to garner support.

Some leaders have supported the idea. Others have urged the slow development of economic communities and allegiances that analysts say will let them cement their regional ties and position.
When the eccentric Libyan leader became the union's chairman in 2009, AU members announced they would form the Authority, a plan they cemented later that year at a summit Qaddafi hosted in his hometown of Sirte. In announcing the decision, Tanzanian president and outgoing AU head Jakaya Kikwete said of the transition: "the ultimate is the United States of Africa."AU officials would not comment on Qaddafi's link to the idea when asked about it this week.

The AU last week set up a panel of five leaders to mediate in Libya's rebellion, but has not said whether they believe Qaddafi should remain in power.
Complete coverage: Anger in the Arab World"We condemn the disproportionate use of force," spokesman Noureddine Mezni said. "We are taking this issue of Libya very seriously."South Africa-based analyst Francis Ikome acknowledged the odd confluence of events but said while Qaddafi has been the main proponent of unity in recent years, the idea dates back to the 1960s."I would want to imagine that the message they would want to send is that continental integration will not stop all of a sudden just because Qaddafi is no longer there," he said.Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, AU legal counsel Ben Kioko said the new Authority will allow the AU to "play a more active role and continue to be relevant for the peoples of Africa as well as to respond to the demands of prevailing challenges.

"
The AU is embracing unification at a particularly difficult time. Of the organization's 53 members, four are suspended, three have suffered popular uprisings, and another, Somalia, is entering its third decade of all-out war.Egypt and Libya, two of the organization's biggest contributors, are in the midst of political turmoil, as West African powerhouse Ivory Coast struggles with growing violence after a political crisis.

"Some people think that the continent is nowhere near ready for the unity that Qaddafi is pushing," said Ikome, who leads the African Conflict Prevention program at the Pretoria-based Institute for Security Studies. "And while many leaders publicly pay lip service to this idea, they don't really support it."
But Ikome said the new Authority may be able to do more than the AU currently can to solve the continent's problems."It would have been useful to prioritize, to try to put out the fires that are currently burning across the continent," he said. "But you have to acknowledge that to put these fires out it might be useful to have a degree of unity. ... A problem with the AU is that it has lacked teeth."Libya has long played a big role in the organization. Qaddafi used Libya's oil wealth to fund the transformation of the old Organization of African Unity into the African Union in 2002.

It is not clear whether Qaddafi's concept of a united Africa would be a democratic one. He attends the AU's annual summits flanked by a coterie of extravagantly dressed men who call themselves the "traditional kings of Africa" and describe Qaddafi as the lead king.

The Ugandan leader, Yoweri Museveni, said the real debate should be between pan-Africanism and the need for regional union in Africa - and he made it clear he thought it was regional union that mattered.

M7 has nothing to say. He has failed to keep peace in his own country and yet he talks as if he's so charismatic.

Diplomatically, everyone cherished the principle that one day Africa should be united.

If we are to be on an equal footing with the rest of the world, we have one choice, UNITY. THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA.

We have another choice, Sudan has shown that. We do not need anymore unities. What we need is capable leaders to lead the continent out of poverty. Get rid of all dictactors from Magogoni to Kampala, Nairobi, Kigali and the rest of the cities.

If you ask any head of state today, he'll tell you that he's for the African unity and he wanted that yesterday, but if ask him to relinquish power for that sake, then you will see his true colours.

This works well on paper and not practically.., but history has told us the otherwise about Humans...

Refusing to allow unsavoury regimes and wars to thrive on the continent is the fundamental transformation, but, the people of South Sudan they were and are one, united, and managed to be free from dictatorship, it is the same unit I am talking about . Concerted conflict management needs to be the first item on the agenda of individual states, the OAU, and regional organisations like Igad, SADC, Ecowas and EAC.

I don't know how you came to and/or include magogoni while it is you TZS decided to put them back!! Anyway, let us proceed with US of Africa.

Mkuu kuna nchi nyingi sana zimeendelea bila kuungana. Mifano iko mingi. Muungano wa Afrika siyo suluhisho. Let's be for real mkuu wangu do you really think a Unites States of Africa is the answer to our problems? Who are going to govern that government? The same corrupt leaders that govern the individual states now. na Bono kutembelea Uganda kila mwaka does not constitute him knowing our problems and the solutions to them.I don't think he is qualified enough for us to take his words for more than just merely a suggestion from a pop star.

Mswali matamu haya.

What is the concept of a United States of Africa?
