On september 29, His excellency president Uhuru Kenyatta left for france on arriving he was received by his counterpart emmanuel macron at the elysee palace.
During their talks it was noted by both presidents that Kenya forms an important partner to France and the european union, the french president noting that over 400 french companies have set up their African HQ and operations in Kenya.
He also noted the choice of the european union to open their largest office outside brussels, right here in Nairobi.
It was also noted that by far the biggest area of collaboration has been education, with French researchers working in Kenya and Kenyan students going to French universities to study.A trend the french president said should be encouraged for even more Kenyan students to choose France as the preferred choice for higher education internationally.
Both countries are looking for better people- to- people and commercial ties, in order to strengthen the already strong ties between the two countries.
Among the items ironed out from the in tray of both presidents are:
i) Nairobi -Nakuru-Mau summit Highway (6 lanes, 200km)
France confirmed that they will soon undertake to build the 200 km long, 6 lanes expressway designed for speeds 120km/hr and higher.
The contract was signed between Vinci Concessions and Kenha in front of the French president emmanuel macron and the Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The highway will include a 6 lane elevated expressway cutting across Nakuru Town, making Nakuru the second urban centre in east africa to have an elevated highway after Nairobi.
This is the second road project to be undertaken under a PPP model. It will cost Kes 180 billion to build and employ thousand of people during construction.
ii) JKIA-Nairobi Central Rail station ine and Nairobi Commuter Rail DMUs
French company Alstom has also completed signing contracts for building and equipping the dedicated JKIA -Nairobi central rail station commuter line.
The line is expected to increase traffic to and from JKIA while making JKIA the preferred Hub of travel in sub saharan africa.
Talks also went into signing agreements for Alstom to equip the Nairobi commuter rail with modern DMUs. French president emmanuel macron noting that an expected ridership of 2.6 million monthly is a great opportunity for collaboration between France and Kenya.
iii) Private sector Investments
Today october 1st the Kenyan president will address the business people at BPI France Inno Generation 2020 trade forum. The European country's largest international innovation and entrepreneurship extravaganza which brings together hundreds of French companies to explore investment opportunities abroad.
At the forum that will be held at the iconic Accor Arena, Uhuru will be hosted by President Macron on whose invitation the Kenya Head of State is gracing this year's BPI France Inno Generation as its guest of honour.
On Friday, October 2, he will preside over the Kenya-France business forum organised by the French Business Confederation (Movement Des Entreprises De France (MEDEF).
The president will market Kenya as the preferred investment destination in africa with support from the french government.
The meeting will bring together investors from Kenya and France to discuss investment opportunities in Kenya as well as explore avenues for increasing Kenyan exports into the lucrative French market especially processed Agricultural produce .
